kraiting; /kreɪtɪŋ/ - trying to bait* someone into buying a moderatly priced killright (usually around 50mil isk and made availiable by an alt or a friend of the kraiter) while idling near a gate or station in an, by comparison, relatively cheap t1 industrial. other forms may include freighters and 1bil isk killrights, where the kraiter actually turns a profit on the insurance money, which can net him/her, minus the cost for the freighter and the insurance, up to 700mil isk overall.
some kraiters will even try to dock up (if possible) or jump through the near stargate in the hopes to get away to avoid losing the ship at all.

as mentioned below, some kraiters might even set auto-pilot routes for their ships in an attempt to appear like an unexperienced or unaware player hauling cargo from A to B. this practice, however, could be more tempting to, in turn, new and unexperienced players, especially if they did not scan the ship and do not realize that in most cases it has either valuable cargo nor any valuable mods installed, if any at all.

*this is a textbook example of a bait and not a scam. for it to be a scam it would need at least two more steps - the approach, which can be even a public announcement in local, and the trust building, where the scammer tries to make the scam appear legit through some kind of prove, like a third party testimony, a fake API key or a good devised story.

Not sure this is new. It's been around for a long time.

Often combined with autopiloting.

1. Set an autopilot route with your killright set by your alt as available to anyone for a fee.
2. Begin route
3. Leave computer and do something else
4. Come back to see wallet blinking
5. Profit

But this is the first time I've heard this term for it.

It's hardly new.

We recently had a whine thread about it as well.

Your non-whiny, informative thread is appreciated, even if it's not a new thing.

Well, at least the name appears to be new.
Either that, or I just ignore weird nicknames for commonly practiced things.

I saw you edit that into the post afterwards.

Well played!

i have to admit that this practice is rather new to me, since i never checked ships on route for kr's, and they now may strike special attention due to the overview changes a few updates back and the therefor better visibility. or because more and more kraiters pop up around jita (or forge region in general) lately.

but, this post is not about the practice itself but rather about giving it a name and to explain how it's done exactly... maybe even getting it its own place in the scam sections throughout the various wikis.

Nobody really has control on what we call things. It's a "Pirate Cove by the Island of Pirate" thing after all.

I have an alt with a KR on someone who is very unpopular on the one hand and could make it a public sale KR to make ISK but on the other hand I find the unpopular individual to be a straight shooter (just because someone is unpopular in our collapsing society does not make them bad) and would rather just let it expire.

You can also just bump a wealthy miner and hope he has no clue how killrights actually work. Also this is old.

I think the only person who is trying to spread this name is you. I don't see any references anywhere other than from the spam you've been posting in local.

Kill right baiting is a scam, technically.

So why not "Kramming"? Much better sounding...Lol

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

... or Krapping for those who do it on autopilot.

Yeah! From now on when I see someone autopiloting with a killright, I'm going to shout, "IT'S A KRAP!"

Krait is a snake. It's also an excellent fighter from the Elite legacy. Name's taken, buzz off.
Let's call it a simple killfaking

The word has excellent prospects for mistranslation. e.g. killfarking, killfucking
A little swear word here and is good to grab the attention of the masses.

ya? why is that?

obviously not otherwise there would be a term for it or any kind of description for this practice.

so now seriously, hands down, what is your problem with me trying to get this out there? noone i know or talked to knew of or anything about this kind of scam, at least not in the way ppl know about the isk doublers or drunk buy order scam. maybe you already knew about it, but the vast majority doesn't seem to. when the kr's finaly showed properly in the overview there were maybe 1 or 2 guys hanging around jita 4-4. now there is 5 and another 5 on various gates on the road to uedama. so apperently this has become a more wider spread scam - a thing - worthy of mentioning.

don't like my term? you can call it "one-legged-fool-humping" for all i care...

Here you go.
A quick google of "eve online kill right scamming" brought this up as one of the top results.
