Faster lvl 4's? no. You can blitz through 4's in a pirate BS much faster and at greater range creating less risk and more ISK.

If you asked me, I'd luv to see Marauders used more in pvp but their cost is prohibitive.

My advice, skip the Marauder and go for pirate BS. More dmg, faster runs, less ISK, less risk.

How do you deal with 'specialties' of NPC? I mean damping from serpentis, jamming from gurista, etc?

That's not all.

How do pirate BS do more damage? One could make a case for the mach because of the double damage bonus, but in return it misses an 8th turret slot and has appaling range unless using less damaging ammo. It's also missing built-in tanking bonusses, leaving more slots for damage for marauders.

If there is a difference though, i doubt it ever reaches into the double digits in percentage, and given the extreme comfort and ease marauders offer i'd say pirate BS for missions are useful, but extremely overrated by this Desimus guy :)

There is an ISK different in acquiring the ship itself, but an initial different of, at most, 500m really isn't much when doing level 4's in the long run.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

I own a Mach and a Vargur. DED fit (swappable between the 2). The Mach far out dps's the Vargur pve wise. If I was dealing with guristas it would be different but using an AC fit the serpentis damping doesn't matter (also serpentis seem to favor blasters so the rats are generally always at a nice range and if not the Mach is fast as all hell). Using a ded tank on the Mach is already more than sufficient, on the Vargur (especially with bastion) it's overkill many times over. Being shield tanked I don't really have the option for removing tank mods for damage mods (webs, paints, tracking computers really only help with frigate rats anyways so marginal benifit - 100m3 drone bay on Mach is easily enough to deal with cruiser and BC rats while I kill BS's).

Like I said, guristas I'd probably use the Vargur but I mainly deal with serpentis. Tracking disrupted rats may cause an issue, but tank is good enough to just fly straight at target rat (dropping transversal to near zero) negating tracking issues.

I may also change to a Vargur if I were increasingly having to shoot at range (although Mach gets a nice falloff bonus as well) and was finding myself constantly pulsing the mwd going from target to target.

If I flew a Rattler it'd be the same thing, except that ship has great range and jams don't matter as much when your dps is drone dependant.

Pirate BS for PvE, my Vargur is awaiting new fittings to be a pvp toy.

Same here with the Mach/Vargur combo. I gotta say I miss buzzing around in the Mach, but the efficiency, added utility, and overkill tank of a Vargur makes up for the speed and fury lost.

Vargur example: before jumping into the final room of Dread Scarlet, I use my mobile depot to swap mods and quickly charge cap while I sort and toss loot. I load up the tank + mwd, scoop the depot and hit the gate. Burning to the BS's, I pretend I'm a Mach and start painting and melting the cruisers. I let the shield drop to 25%, hit the Bastion and look for my L shield booster. Oops, still in my cargohold. Drop the depot, overheat the invuln, and gank to tank. I never touched armor in the 60s it took to load up the SB. (I opted for the XLSB to fill up quick).

All this proves is I'm a dummy and my 2 bil ship saved my arse. Yes. I scooped up the loot from the MTU, salvaged the BS hulls, and warped to the next mission.

A Mach would have cleared Scarlet faster, left behind the loot, beat me to the next mission, and offered much less margin for error in managing the DPS. The Vargur has made me dim and lazy; I'm ok with that.
