My week long sabbatical to Iceland is almost at an end and the bus will be back in action in a few days.

Does it make me a bad person if I listened to your interview with Mynxee, and now want to donate a few billion ISK to chain you to the bus for the rest of time?

People are still listening to that? I thought it had sunk into the depths of time

and helping new folks with donations is nice even if it means the eternal torment of yours truly

Well in fairness I listened to that a few weeks ago. It wasn't until the PLEX prices started going absolutely nuts in the last week I started to think about how a week of morning coffee translates into hundreds of frigates for newbies.

Any thoughts on whether the announced starter SP grant for the Vanguard patch will affect the Bus program? The only hole in the prereqs I can see is the lack of Cloaking I (CPU IV is being granted), so it looks like basically anything can be handed out with an expected skill up time of 0 min.

Yeah. I had some things to say about it. The most apparent thing is the drone skill needs to be drones III. I am not sure that direct starting skills is the right thing but the other options probably had a lot more programming issues.

The philosophy of starting players so they can fly is a good one . . . the line of where you start them varies from opinion to opinion.

Very true. I have my own (seemingly unique) perspective on where to start the newbros, but this would neither be the time nor place. :)

For Drones: The image I saw was from an Amarr character, which I assume is why the armor tank skills were at 3 while shields were at 1. My hope was that Gallente at least would have a higher Drones start, considering they've got the premier drone frigate. Unfortunate if that's not the case. Especially if Minnies and the Squids get stuck with sub-standard tanking skills.

I support this initiative. New players mining for an hour to make half a million ISK in a venture are highly likely to eventually see the next step as a retriever and stay in carebear mode forever and eventually quite out of boredom.

Donating them ships is a bit like giving a young person in real life starter capital so they can break out of working at the gas station for a few bucks an hour.

Its not as if these are expensive ships either, I can recall at one stage donating 300 ventures I had sitting around to Angel Project (speculative super low buy order at a school got them for about 50K each) because I really could not be bothered moving them somewhere and selling them just to pick up 100 mill.

And it's not just the career path. Something Mike goes over in the interview is the idea of "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose." If you're mining for a mil an hour, some 1.3M fit frigate represents a lot of time going back to the Venture. So even if you don't want to mine, it's still the "thing you have to get good at to afford other things later."

And insult to injury, you can't even just donate a gas mining Venture. Sad

well I suppose it could be done if we tossed a gas mining skill book in the hold of the venture fitted as such.

I don't think the Venture itself is the problem, but the 24 million ISK price tag on the Gas Harvesting skillbook might be a bit steep for the Bus program.

I support this operation

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

End of the month swiftly approaches and with that the celebration of Operation Magic School Bus being in service for one full year.

I honestly wish I had kept track of how many ships have been handed out.

I'd urge everyone to keep giving Mike stuff to give away, you get to feel good about yourself without having to put any actual effort in. It's pretty much ideal.

Due to computer issues (motherboard fried, buying a new machine) the bus will be out for a few days. Help each other as much as you can and I will be back and touring the career systems as soon as I can.

Where were you guys when I started!

I had to pull myself up by my boot straps and I didn't even have any boots...Cry

It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.
