First off, yes I'm posting whilst slightly butthurt tonight particularly, but it is a genuine grievance with a system that probably needs some attention. Self destructing caps robbing killmails. So we're out with a small gang, not a bunch of supers who can wtfpwn a carrier and we managed to get a thanny off the station and eventually put him down...or so we thought, no he had activated self destruct 2 minutes earlier, so he pops with 20% structure left, we cheer, then see this little thorn "23:02:39 Notify Thanatos belonging to Lestrom self-destructs." So after all that effort, we get no proof of our kill, I mean, when he wakes up in the morning, he still has no thanatos...Without us there shooting it, it would still exist. So, CCP, do you not think that either one of these alternatives should be put in place a) A ship cannot self-destruct whilst in combat b) If they self destruct, the KM goes to the final blow from an enemy ship.

Idea

Edit: Apologies for poor grammer and what not, it's 5am.

Final Blow was by the pilot flying the cap ship.

If any change should be made, the pilot self destructing should get his own killmail.

TL;DR Kill Faster !!!

Don't you think it's a bit of a disincentive for people to even bother going for caps with small gangs? His ship is dead, he's sad already, so we may aswell be happy to balance it out with a nice shiny killmail surely?

Just simply: You may not activate self destruct whilst in combat, job done.

I agree with the OP, it's a pu$$y move, completely bullshit mechanic. We need SD in the game, but it should not work if you are under aggression, problem solved.

In before buthurt cap pilots claim that small gangs don't deserve killmails when they pwn you while your absent mindedly carebareing in the middle of some nullsec snoozefest.

Did everyone overload?
No?
Get a better FC.

But ya, it would be nice if someone got a mail, even the guy who did SD, if the corp/alliance has a KB it would be api posted.

No do not take away SD...

I agree, simply adding a killmail for self-destructed ships would prevent many, many people from being cheated out of a legitimate kill. The only current solution is to "blob moar"

"War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP

Killmails ARE important to a great many people. Self destruct is important in certain cases, stranded in a wormhole for example, podding yourself is pretty nessesary. However SD'ing while in battle, has no legit use and should not be allowed. The only thing it's used for is to hide their own failures on killboards. Like logging off (which is getting fixed), this too only really effects capitals and thus should be resolved.

It would likely be one IF statement.

bool canSelfDestruct (shipType ship) {
if (ship.isAggressed) return false;
return true;
}

We want to encourage small gang combat. I don't give a damn about km's where a carrier died to 100 people. You know that rooks and kings video? K162 had plenty of time to self destruct, fortunately there are some alliances that have a bit of honour.

always have someone in gang fit a cyno, ozone for an activation and have a supercarrier on standby and you won't deal with this crap

I like the idea of a modified kill-mail; sure. Don't remove self-destruct though. As long as it is clear you forced that pilot to self-destruct - what is the harm?

Well that is the view of a Goon yes, however, alot of people don't like pressing Ctrl-Alt-Win, far more satisfaction comes from a Cap kill with subcaps than us dropping a couple of Nyx's.

"just use supers" is not a solution to the problem, and in wormholes it's not even possible. In fact specifically in wormholes it's extraordinarily unlikely that anyone would have enough dps to burn down a carrier in the given amount of time.

It's not my problem specifically, It's a widespread concern in eve. Many corps won't even take someone unless they can show a decent killboard. It's easy to flip around though since the only reason one would blow up their own cap under fire would be to deny others the km. So obviously people do care, on both sides.

"Blobb more" is not the answer. it's the dumb response from the type of people who would SD.

SD'ing under aggression should result in a killmail. it should show that the pilot self destructed

here i modified a killmail to sorta show what i think it should look like

kill and loss mails show the history of a pilot. any time a ship you're inhabiting blows up there should be a lossmail generated, no matter why the ship exploded.

[edit]
oh.. and to prevent "eject evasion" - any ship you inhabited at the time in which it became aggressed gets lossmailed to you.
