All this kb whining is giving me hearburn. SD is working well, its primary purpose should be to deny the enemy a kill. In fact there should be no lootz left after the nuclear detonation, further denying enemy satisfaction. Move along kids, nothing but whine in this post..

If a cap is killed with noncaps then the cap pilot deserves infinite lossmails, and all the subcaps infinite killmails.

This.

I've had caps self destruct on me before but am I whining? no. Their loss either way. Now take away insurance from self destruct and that'll be interesting.

This actually makes sense.

Killmails? Couldn't care less.

No self-destructing while aggressed? Cool, show me where you mine, I'll just point you and go AFK. Enjoy staring at your ship until the next downtime.

I'm trying to figure out why not getting a killmail somehow means you had less fun killing that ship, I personally think that EVE should do away with killmails altogether, it would be much better for pvp.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

I've lost 4-5 capital killmails this way. Honestly it's the most bullshit mechanic in the game. Loot denial, I could see it being used for that, but a kill-mail should be generated in any situation.

Killmails ARE important to a great many people.

I think I found your problem.

People can take satisfaction in whatever they want in this game, it's a sandbox after all.

In that case, isn't it equally valid for people to take satisfaction in denying others of their killmails by self destructing?

It's a sandbox after all.

I believe self destructing is intended to be an anti-griefing measure, so it's not possible to remove it entirely or force you to be unable to self destruct while aggressed. There are three solutions that I can see:

1) You cannot self destruct ships but you can self destruct pods. So if a griefer points you, you can eject from your ship. Self destruction of a pod is equivalent to ejecting. The only problem with this is that it can be used as a method to steal mining barges.

2) Self destructing a ship will cause it to explode on the next aggression of any kind - so when the griefer has you pointed, it will make your ship explode when the point cycles - but your attacker will still receive a killmail, and it'll be treated as a normal kill, so loot will still drop.

3) Self destructing will last two minutes as before, but all your modules go offline and have to be onlined MANUALLY. This will stop someone self destructing and then cancelling it to get back into a fight when the tides turn. And at the end of the timer, it'll be a normal killmail with normal loot.

I like the idea of denying insurance in self destruct cases. Other than just capitals this would mean that people you have rapecaged in a pos will be incentivised to actually fight you / try to break out instead of just blowing themselves up, though the option is still there if they think its worth it.

That said the SD timer on caps should probably be increased to 10mins or so.

How is this for a solution? When you set SD active your ship constantly takes damage over the 2min SD time as the ship explodes allowing people to still kill it and the ship dieing even faster making these fail pilots think twice about self destructing?

Just a thought.

Any of these suggestions are better than the current situation, whenever a ship is destroyed there should be a mail to show who was involved. People don't self destruct capitals for fun, much the same as The Bismarck wasn't randomly scuttled, it was scuttled because the Royal Navy had been battering it.

Damn nature, you scary!

Dear DelBoy Trades,

I think your suggestion would perfectly fit into CCP Soundwave's thread where he asks for 1000 more little things to improve EVE and to implement.

Thread locked.
