I don't believe it is necessary, but if it is that big of a concern (I can see why), then what CCP proposed regarding medical clones and new characters is fine.

People are trying to meta this thread in quite a few ways, from stating there will be subtile changes, to threats that goods will skyrocket, and that they will leave the game, not ship stuff, hate themselves and that CCP has ruined pizza. Beyond that post, were several asking for quicker and quicker timers. Regardless of that, the change proposed by CCP in this case is fine. Its a option for new characters.

I do fear the issue of the rainyday cyno alt creeping up, but if so, that's alot of plex to train up alt char's just to do that.

It's not necessary as in "it must be in or the game will DIE", but it's still a very nice feature to have to bring new characters out of one environment into another without necessarily putting them instantly through a meatgrinder.

I know it's not THAT hard to get to null, and you could argue that if you can't take a frigate/noobship/interceptor loss without ragequitting you shouldn't be in null, but we do want people to create empires which consist of more than just fighters, we do also want hardcore miners, manufacturers etc to get there, and some of them do not have the mental fortitude to take even such a small loss.

I'd just call it a quality of life change which could help CCP get more profits.

Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. I'm ok with the CCP change of it.

Yaay!!!!

In this day and age, jumping will be a commitment so you have to teach people how to understand what kind of commitement their jump create.

I love this change. It reminds me of Battlestar Gallactica when they're being chased by the Cylons after every jump. That crew was fatigued after so many jumps. It wore them down. I love that's what will take place here.

I just wish it affected your performance in combat if you have a fatigue timer still active, no matyer what ship you're in.

Here's a history lesson for you...GF, Dreddit, and BNI. These entities drive content in the game and rely heavily on newbies. All of them have intense newbie training systems and resources. Would you like to compare retention rates for those guys vs the people who learn eve via the tutorial? I think you'd be surprised. You could be shooting red crosses and running npc courier missions your first week or you could be locking down gates for massive fleet fights with dudes giving you isk showers. I think everyone knows which one of those is actually fun and rewarding.

Gather a bunch of rookies up in a staging high sec system, have fun traveling to the station of your choice down in null sec. How being able to teleport over there once in a blue moon changes anything? How is this any better at all? Most of the time the only people who make use of pod jumping and will continue taking advantage of whatever NPE focused implementation will be vets and their clever use of game mechanics. Lobbying for limited use features is a waste of dev time. Such feature wouldn't teach new players anything about EVE and it's complex mechanics. Let dev focus on serious stuff which is used daily and is in need of serious fixes or rewamps.

Talking to the logistics guys in our corp, it seems like the new meta will be to transport compressed ore from Jita and then build ships locally. Industrialists will be in low sec/0.0 heaven.

Will take longer per run, but overall there may be an overall time savings if the JF is filled to the top with compressed ore because it will take fewer runs. It might be more efficient to use a blockade runner as well (which apparently carries more in compressed ore than a JF carries in a load of frigates by a factor of 3-4 ?).

I always thought it was a strong point of eve that each section of space (empire, low and null) depended upon each other for goods etc. . . It made for considerable travel back and forth which in turn brought about non-consensual pvp. By moving towards localization of nullsec, there will be less travel back and forth between empire, low and null, meaning that there will be less reasons for non-consensual pvp. Low will be especially hit hard since there will be less folk transitioning back and forth through low from empire to null. CCP hasnt been focused much on non-consensual pvp of late and in facts seems to be pushing things in the opposite direction with its relatively recent nerfs to crimewatch and now we have the introduction of the DOJO. Over all, I cant say that Im happy with the direction EVE development.

CCP Greyscale is there any chance at all you will address the concerns of Black Frog and PushX of not being able to get to many NPC null systems without going through sov null, or is this an intended consquence?

Strategic deals between corps/alliance?

They will probably offer stuff like "You will be blue to use and have docking rights but you have to do X convoy for us per month in exchange".

After a day to think about this is at the same time the most brilliant and dumbest thing CCP has ever come up with.

It solves the stupidity of bored capital pilots hot droppiing things 20ly away "just because", solves big alliances from being able to launch an attack then respond to a threat half way across null within the same half hour and makes subcaps much more relevant.

It on the other hand will screw anyone who was a small renter deep into space , unless they are ready they can somehow assemble a manufacturing trade arrangement.

THe issue in EVE is attempting to ship anything without jumping is so much more difficult than a real world equivilant. You can not even have free traders going from Alliance A space who make X widgets, to Alliance Bs space to trade for Y widgets, since people will make their life miserable.

if JF nerf is removed it would be a lot easier to build all necessary ships to cover yourself and your empires borders with cap fleets after some time.

BAD idea

One big problem is that these changes have the unintended consequence of nerfing multiple jumps over short ranges, say back and forth between two nearby systems. That has nothing to do with force projection and yet will still incur the same penalties as jumping all the way across the universe.

protip... use the stargates for short range trips.

Don't worry, nullies: CCP only announced this to show us high sec carebear wussies that they wanted to nerf null somehow after all the hits high sec has taken. But it'll be radically changed, or eliminated completely: too many nullies in CSM, nullie friends of GMs, and nullies padding their subscription numbers.

Not to worry: most of it won't happen. Smile

Edit: speeling

The face of tangible fear.

That doesn't even make sense. Try a new "tears" approach. Although that doesn't work either, cuz I'm a high sec carebear wussy, remember? I give less than a poop about what is allegedly going to happen, because a) it ain't gonna happen and b) I'm REALLY enjoying the nullie tears in this thread. Twisted

On a side note: Is that you, Industrial? Blink

If you've been around for previous game mechanics changes in the past, you'll note that many were pushed through despite the many concerns and people who disagreed (although they were the minority, the same as they are with in case).

I mentioned fear, because I assumed much sarcasm with your post. I don't know you, and your post came across as being facetious by representing yourself with "us high sec carebear wussies".

If we can use history as any sort of metric to determine the likelihood of this patch occurring, the safe bet is that it will assuredly happen.

^^ This is true.

In the years I have been playing, this isn't the first time this has happened. There have been multiple changes that were pushed through even after large numbers of players threatened to, and even followed through with dropping their subscriptions.

Although the amount of players posting their discontent over this change might seem like a lot, it still has yet to grow beyond the backlash caused from the disabling of ghost training, or the nano nerf, or quite a few other changes over the years.
