I LIVED!!!!

WOW what a rush. We jumped into a 40 man fleet in nullsec. CCP Eterne started calling out targets and we actually managed to kill a few ships before the fleet was obliterated. I started taking damage in my merlin t1 ship. Got into structure when I was able to align and warp out. I docked, repaired and headed back to the gate.

On my way back I hit a warp bubble, was scrammed, webbed and neuted, started taking damage and managed to JUMP through.

I'm writing this as one of the survivors of our fleet. Good job CCP, this was great fun!!!!

Executioner (combat/tackle) AB+scram and web; damage control, EANM and overdrive.

Basically, it turned out to be a Dev roam (of one) with about 4-5 squads in fleet. we whelped into CVA nullsec.

Great fun, even if my character was a day old n00b in a starter ship (all modules were greyed out on the gift ship)...i think i actually got on a hurricane killmail. lol.

unfortunately, from an objective standpoint i wasn't quite sure what was being done. As a fleet PVP 'demonstration' is was okay. I've been part of way worse. Thing is though, it was FC'd by a "ccp community developer" (aka blue text) and assisted by one or three green text volunteers.
probably about the same level of commitment seen during the nov 7th debacle.

don't get me wrong, it was a fun whelp. FC quality is irrelevant since it, i guess, was merely intended as a hands on 'demonstration' of a pvp fleet.

thing is, i get the impression that EVE university and other dedicated player groups are the equal if not better than any ccp 'event' by an order of magnitude.

Assuming I have things right, this was just a CCP Rookie PvP fleet to do exactly what you said, Whelp into Null, blow a few things up and die. Pretty much a standard whelp fleet roam.

I think it shines alight on some of the missing mechanics of fleet PVP. Its a bit difficult to call out targets and look at the overview to find the guy. There should be VISIBLE broadcasts that show up CLEARLY somewhere in the interface, maybe ABOVE the capacitor which show who to target next. Seems like this could use some improvement.

Once engaged in a fleet fight it can become quickly cluttered and difficult to pick targets, even with a PVP overview setup.

there are, the fleet UI window has a broadcast history that has both an immediate broadcast indicator and an ordered list - first lesson they should have taught you is to ignore your overview and use the fleet window - the only ones in the fleet to use the overview are target callers.

well now you know X) - fleet window's got the most important tools a fleet pilot'll need, surprised if they didn't cover it, maybe in their previous lecture thing?

would've liked to sit in on those lessons of theirs to see how they managed them/help if it was needed however they were in a bit of a shoddy time frame for me (4-5 am), so had to sit them out...

Good to see some positive feedback for CCP after Doril.

Although I was unable to attend this event, sounds like they must have done it right! +1
