Wild Hunt/Running man event

I recently finished the sanctuary image contest week 3. The run to Steve was very challenging due to all the gate camps etc. but a lot of fun!

Why not organizing a new live event called Wild hunt or Running man.

Players can either become runners or hunters. A challenging track through null-sec will be released.

Rules draft:
1. A certain time window for runners to start.
2. Runners have to complete the run within 24h
3. Runners and hunters may fly whatever they want, everything is allowed and can be used.
4. Runners are not allowed to skip the track by sidestepping through wh-space
5. Runners and hunters have to enroll and be visible as such
6. Hunters can form fleets and coordinate.
7. Successful hunters (kill) and runners win a prize. First runner who makes it and most kills hunter wins a Grand prize.
8. If a runner get's shot down, he has to wait till the next event.
9. Betting system. How many make it? Who is the fastest, who is the best hunter.
10. Enrolled hunters are not allowed to shoot each other, but can manipulate in other non lethal ways.
11. All other players in Null-sec who are not enrolled can have their fun and shoot at, gate-camp and do whatever they are usually doing but won't win prizes.
12. Each new run gets a new track through Null-sec
13. Pod-killing is allowed. Think about what implants you bring along.
14. Runners may shoot back.

Why doing it?
Adrenaline, established Null-sec "territory holders" get a bit shaken up, a lot of politically not motivated killing, sports.

Please leave comments, especially constructive ones.

Given that I died trying to get to Steve this sounds like a Brilliant Idea....Always good to see us lot coming up with stuff (I would but I'm to ********/lazy right now)

Shitposts so bad CONCORD gave me a 50 billion ISK bounty

Or may be doing a EvE Cannonball run - Who is the fastest pilot in New Eden.

That would reduce the organizational effort. And pilots willing to kill one are plenty available in Null-sec.
Could be even organized among players themselves.
Each player deposits a starting fee.
Fastest at destination takes it all.

This is a cool idea. There are a few technical limitations on doing it but definitely a nice idea when those technical hurdles aren't in the way.

The Cannonball Run idea is something I particularly enjoy to augment with scavenger hunt/orienteering style mechanics. Essentially, any "race" should have flashpoints of danger on it rather than being a fully open course with just a set beginning and end point. I think that's more fun.

The Cannonball run might be solved if there are enough bottlenecks along the track through null-sec. On the other hand it can be also a bit like the Top Gear race..Palyer 1 takes route A with the "train" player 2 takes another one in the Ferrari. One could even think about doing different classes for the same track like the Paris-Dakar dessert race. Who is the fastest frigate pilot or the fastet transport ship pilot?

I enjoyed the sanctuary image contest a lot. But we were not really exploring/orienting because one could look up the results from players who finished earlier since in all the screenshots the system info was visible and the week duration. In that sense it was a bit like "In 80 days around the world" which only affirms our civilizatory achievements. The more challenging parts were the unpredictable bits like Wolf-Rayet, the run to Steve or finding prime Arkonor.

Coming back to the Steve run/Cannonball: There could be a narrow time window where one can sign up for Cannonball fleet coming together at a certain meeting point in a specific system. When all are there, the destination will be revealed and the race starts. That would be much more short term and the possibilities are endless....

-Sponsorships of successfull racers by rich entrepreneurs, the State or corps
-Who is the New Eden Champion after one season
-Betting, race manipulation, etc.

I like the idea of the end point only being disclosed when everyone is there or time has been met. It means that those wishing to have an affect on the participants have the same time as those heading there to prepare their gate camps\ambushes or whatever and not days in advance.

Some good ideas in this I quite like it.

I guess this would work as a player-driven event as well if someone just took the pains to organize it (like this.)

I agree.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting indeed. I had a short read and it appears that the event requires a lot of effort in terms of checking all the way points. What also seemed to be a problem was that participants complained about being attacked during the race as a sort of race manipulation.

The Cannonball could solve this in the following way.
-Route leads to Null-sec, being attacked or bubbles are part of the game. It is not only about speed but also survival skills.
e.g in case a system is camped. Do I warp directly or zig-zag via safe spots?
-One route instead of a round track. Everybody can choose his/her own route. That means the organizers would only need 2 players. One at the start and one at the finish. Participants have to uncloak on arrival and e.g. grab a container which says first, second or third place.
-Revealing the final destination shortly before the start only to registered racers. Of course the race participants can contact their corp members or friends to request help. But those have to make it there too. In order to protect the "finish line" everybody joins fleet and the organizer in the target systems sits cloaked on a safe spot and joins fleet last. The racers arriving in the target system can "warp to fleet member" and grab a container. In that sense it is still impossible for others to find the exact location of the finishing line.

It will be probably a race of covert ops frigates due to cloaked warping, faster warp speed, mwd+cloak trick, etc. but the question still will be: Does one go for pure speed and agility or for safety in forms of warp core stabilizers, etc. and most importantly their behavior upon arrival on a gate when e.g. bubbles are there or local chat is full.

Anybody who wants to help organizing this, finding sponsors, be a racers, etc. is very welcome
