1: When using multiple accounts on the same client install it now takes even longer for me to log in.
2: Upon my first login with this I find that every single setting I had has now been reset, thank you for making me spend the next 20-30 minutes redoing all my settings.
3: I will now be unable to even touch Eve on my linux box because I can't get into settings on the game before it launches full screen and breaks Wine.

If I didn't have so much time, effort, and money invested in this game, this new launcher of yours would have lost you 3 paying accounts because of all the hassle I'm having.

Good job.

PS: Ever hear the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it'? Previous launcher wasn't broke, why did you try to fix it?

For everyone complaining about the new login method using the launcher, there is a solution: Dont use it

Goto your Eve install directory, then goto the \Bin\ folder. Look for ExeFile.exe, and create a shortcut to this file. If you use the symbolic link directory method for running multiple clients, you will need to do this from each symbolic folder.

Once you create your shortcuts, just copy/move them to your desktop. The client will fire up with all your settings (provided you didnt muck with your %appdata%\local\CCP folder) and you will have your saved login usernames same as before.

The only thing you loose doing it this was is the auto updating part of the launcher. If your client becomes outdated (due to a recently released patch) your client will display "Incompatible Protocol" If this happens, close your client, open the launcher, allow it to patch your client, then reopen your client with the "No Launcher" shortcut you created above.

Congrats and now stop your bitching, and get to killing things :P

This is interesting, but I'm not sure what you are saying. What are 'symbolic links'?

F**king lovely!

now all 4 of my eve icons no longer have the individual account names pre-loaded.

How about making it functional instead of "pretty"..... mmmkay?

Symbolic links is a way to have x number of directories with eve installed (x being number of accounts) without using that much space. You basically have one real folder and then rest are just fake links that client sees as a separate path. That way you can have x number of settings (like colour scheme and things like that) while still using up space for one client and having to patch only once.

On windows systems this is normally done with junction (free tool from MS).

Please get rid of this stupid launcher, or let it be an option. I don't care if its more secure, I don't have an viruses/keyloggers, because I'm actually intelligent about conducting myself online.

Please either take it out or make it an option, doing this with multiple accounts is hell.

To CCP:

Let me know when you finally get the launcher fixed so I don't lose all my settings. Until then, I will not be using the Launcher. I spent too much time getting all my overview settings the way I like them, to run back and do them all over again now.

I have downloaded the launcher, but now it fails to ininialise at all

So I ran Eve Repair tool, it downloads a 19MB patch, then I get this:

WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\launcher\\launcher.exe

I think this where you run it as administrator

I found out why the repair feature wouldn`t work:

I decided to reboot my PC, and then found a corrupt version of launcher.exe was running invisibly still

So, after reboot, the repair worked

One thing I don`t like about the new launcher, it takes too long validating

Well, I'm using 3 eve installations in 3 different folders (created with just copy and paste), have done 3 different start links with the /LUA:OFF switch and all launchers start with the dedicated account to them... So no prob for multiboxing here...

TY, but you're saying I need to install another Mickeysoft app, just to make life easier? I don't think so.

What a massive screwup on CCP's part.

GG, ccp. You've actually made it worse for players to log into the game. I've made a shortcut to the exefile in the bin folder so I don't have to go through the launcher every time I want to log in more than one account

Any update on that Odyssey screensaver(might as well call it now) and or menu theme?
Or is that a foregone thought now.
Two weeks left, I suppose it's not coming then, can't but feel a bit let down imo, first expansion without a theme.

Unless it's a surprise of some sort?

How to Recover your Previous Settings (Overview, In-Game Browser Bookmarks, Window Positions)

Step 1 -- Hidden Files and Folders (Windows Users)

Make sure you can see all hidden files and folders.

Control Panel > Folder Options > View Tab > Hidden files and folders > Show hidden files, folders and drives

Step 2 -- Opening Your EVE Settings and Cache Folders (Newest folder with broken settings)

Windows 7 Users: (drive):\users\ username \AppData\Local\CCP\EVE

Windows XP Users: (drive):\Documents and Settings\ username \Local Settings\CCP\EVE

MAC Users: You're on your own for this portion.

Open the folder for each installation of EVE with the newest modification date.

File Location: drive eve is installed on _eve_online_ eve installation folder name _tranquility

File Location example: d_eve_online_eve_tranquility

Step 3 -- Opening Your EVE Settings and Cache Folders That Worked Before the 'New CCP Launcher Features'

Using the location in Step 2, but open the second oldest folder. This should be the last time you logged into EVE to which all of your settings were correct.

Step 4 -- Copy Your Old Settings Folder (Cache Folder is not needed)

Step 5 -- Delete Your New Settings Folder (the newest modified folder that isn't working)

Step 6 -- Paste The Copied Old Settings Folder into the New Settings Folder of the co-responding account installation

Step 7 -- Log-In and Verify that Everything is in Working Order.

Agreed. Now that I can finally run one instance of it, will be avoiding new launcher as much as possible. Ridiculous.

Laucher says "Launching..." exefile says "I'll take 181mb of RAM and do **** all with it".

CCP, your sorry little program isn't fixed. Tried the repair.exe, tried running it from the exefile directly, tried restarting and doing it all over again and still can't get into the game.

Report card says:

Try harder.

Nah it's just a tiny utility. You run it for each directory you want to sym link and that's it. After that you can delete it. No install or anything of the sort.

For all of those bashing CCP for "not fixing the issue." Please by all means, go do it better. They've brought you the game and services thus far and yet you complain about a simple launcher issue...the gaming community is saddening. Have some patience I'm sure they're working on it.Pirate

The issue is not just that they broke the launcher.

It is that they broke something that they did not even have to touch, the old launcher was better for multiboxing as many EVE players do. It worked equally well for non multiboxers. there was no need for the new launcher, just as there was no need for WiS with Incarna.

If that is not enough reason to be mad at CCp, the launcher was on SiSi and did not work. its use was optional so most players including myself just did not use it because it did not work. They ignored all the complaints about the launcher on the test server and put it on TQ anyway. Even though many tester had problems with it.

What they should have done was gotten it working perfectly on SiSi first, then went live with it. If it bugged then at least they would have an excuses. But sending a new launcher that they new was broken to the live server was a huge mistake. Saying they did not know it was broken is BS as the feed back on it was almost all negative with many players not able to even use it.

What i see is a return to the pre incarna mentality where they ignored the player feed back and did their own thing. We know how that turned out. Not to say that there would not have been problems if they had listened to the player feedback, but at least the players would not be able to say, "I told you it was broken. Why didn't you fix it before it went live?"

in reality, CCP has done a very good job with EVE. They have had several very good, nearly bug free expansions, they were over due for a bump in the road. It just would not have looked so bad if the launcher had stayed in testing until it actually worked. It was still not working on SiSi a few days ago when I tried, It has not been fixed there. Why would it work on the live server when it did not work on SiSi? Why did they not make it optional like it was on SiSi? As I said before, the problem is not just that there was a major bug in the new patch. It is that they knew it was not working properly before they released it, yet they released it anyway.

This is great. It somehow corrupted my entire installation on Steam. Have to redownload everything now. I can't code and I respect the amount of work that goes into creating games but... seriously. What the hell?
