hello, having issues trying to get into eve. i have read most of the comments so far and doing some of the stuff that people are trying. uninstaling the game, repairing the game even restarted my pc (as i thought it was to do with my pc). the start up client is saying unable to connect to the server. just would like to know if anyone has done anything different to get it to work and also a estimated time for this issue to be sorted Big smileBig smileBig smile

Just tossing in my two cents, but no, and no. Running Pingplot to 87.237.38.200 shows that everything is fine up until it reaches PACKET-EXCH.car5.London.Level3.net. Then the packet loss goes way up, like 90%+, and it's 1 or 2 hops from CCP's .cc servers. Perhaps something is afoot at that location?

I don't actually lose (ICMP) packets pinging client.eveonline.com, yet the TCP performance of the server is so low it triggers CCP client timeout...

Seriously how long can it be to toss a Varnish frontend in front of that poor Windows server...

I have the same issue. And I'm not able to connect to the first address. I'm able to connect to the other one, but it takes about a minute or so.

confirming repair wizard worked for me.
run the repair tool and it will dowload the update manually without the ****** patcher.
then run the evefile.eve from the bin folder

Want a feedback? You got plenty of feedback in the test server thread. And most of them where negative, plenty of problem. And what are you doing?
Releasing this S**t to the public. And now you are wondering why got a 70+ page thread about issues.

Repair Tool didn't even work for me. Ran it several times. Downloaded Chribba's (http://eve-files.com/temp/eve-update-20130521.zip) file and it works great from the bin dir.

Temp fix.

Get repair to work.

when it finishes repairing it has updated the game.

then go to bin and open eve.exe file.

If you leave the launcher open for 5-10 mins it appears to work, but then entering a username and password doesn't appear to do anything.

I'd love to see the UAT documentation that shows this terrible idea was tested, and who was responsible for claiming it worked. Except I won't ever see that because it probably never happened.

Considering that issues were raised with this on the test server, and apparently not addressed I'm writing this up as a failure in QA or adhering way to much to an deadline and releasing a broken feature hoping it'll work.

Or a monumental coincidence with some network failure that highlighted a major flaw in this login scheme. Question

It'll be worked out eventually, but you'd imagine CCP would be interested in reducing the amount of butthurt that incidents like these cause and actually test the living daylights out of things but I think someone over there gets his jollies in watching the forums flame Twisted

Anyways, the .exe route works for now.

I finally got in, 2.5 hours and dozens of attempts at running repair.exe later. I didn't even try the launcher after the repair completed, I just jumped straight to CCP\Eve\bin\Exefile.exe. Possibly, the number of people attempting to repair are overwhelming the download servers too, leading to the weird and wonderful repair.exe errors we're all seeing.

The repair tool took 3 mins to run when it finally got going, but I can confirm that it does fix the "incompatible protocol" message that your receive if you try to start the game from the Exefile.exe without repairing first.

I also noticed that the repair.exe tool does not die gracefully if it throws an error, so you need to kill any related executables before trying again.

So repair -> CCP\Eve\bin\Exefile.exe

The trick seems to be to completely ignore the launcher once your repair has worked.

As for CCP. Great game, good work for the most part, but breaking the launcher and thus denying access to a paid service (especially one where a single customer will pay you multiple times for multiple accounts) is not a great way of garnering customer support, nor is it a good way to lead up to a major expansion filled with contentious changes.

Now that I've wasted my night's game time trying to figure out how to bypass the launcher, I'll just top up my skill queue, change my shortcuts to point to the game executable and pretend it never happened.

no: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

and http://client.eveonline.com/patches/win_launcherinfoTQ_inc.txt

yes

PS. I was one of the lucky ones that received the patch through prev. launcher and I could simply run exefile.exe by itself to log on TQ

Also in the future, please add a "start eve anyway and use old auth method" option to prevent such cases where the servers are up but the launcher ain't playing nice

Attempted to run the Repair and I kept on getting a failed please check REPAIR.EXE.LOG
Ran the repair -safemode and same thing.
Launched my EVE client from the BIN folder, left it for a couple of minutes and just got a 6MB download while it was sitting on the "protocol" error.

It ran an executable called "evepremiumpatch538542.exe". I can verify that my game client now sais 8.22.534348 but still have the "Incompatible (Protocol)" error.

Going to leave it some more minutes to see if another patch is picked up

If you use the patch, run a repair, then load the signing client through the error window you can still play the game.

Honestly i don't know why people are complaining so much when errors like this have barely happened over the last 10 years and you can still get into the game just fine if you give it a few minutes to repair and launch via the broken launch client. in-game there's a bit of lag when you click on things, but otherwise it's workable.

In the meantime I haven't lost any skillpoints so nobody else should have either. it's not that big of a deal to lose one day of playtime when you all know CCP never lets errors like this go like all the other game companies. These things happen, we're just lucky CCP keeps it rare.

I agree the steam client needs updating, that's a bit of an issue and hopefully they round it all out with the next update in June, but multiboxing isn't the problem - or this would have happened a long long time ago and been fixed already.

Just copy the patch files from earlier in the thread, run a repair, then load through the broken launch client. or use the bin file .exe. whatever works - you'll still be able to play. Like i'm going to go do right now.
