my first eve bump to a rage forum thread

just wondering what gets into somebody's mind who launches a launcher which is the entrance to a game and does not seem to have bothered to test it on a few pc configurations....

Be assured that we read this thread (and all others too) carefully as player feedback is very important to us.

We update you with information as soon as we receive them from our incredible busy developers, sometimes it is best though to keep the experts doing their job uninterrupted for a while while they are developing a solution.

Good news, looking forward to the solution.

CCP Phantom, would it be an idea to release the latest Eve Online game-patch as a downloadable file to import it directly into the launcher using the settings dialog? This could solve the problem of many of us, including me.

how to bypass errors:

create shortcut from repair.exe |||

right click on the shortcut and open properties |||

add this to your launch file/directory to the end of repair.exe |||

(1 empty space) --safemode || it will look like this directory/repair.exe --safemode ||

launch the shortcut, after repair go to eve/bin dir and launch exefile.exe

this worked for me and 4 other guys from corp.
its been confirmed that this only works with original install dir.. (not copy&paste files)

I could get the game running by reinstalling from ground up. But I had still to execute the EveExe

Just like all the player feedback telling you that the new launcher wasn't ready was important to you?

Watch what they do, not what they say.

Why would applying a official patch get you a ban for modifying the client?

Running repair.exe as admin, then opening the game via ExeFile.exe has fixed it for me.

What about Mac users? Have I missed CCP talking about workarounds for those of us using OS X instead of Windows?

+1. Mac workaround please?

You have to run the repair tool then to update the exefile.exe

DO NOT run the launcher it is dog sh it. and will rebreak the exefile.exe

Once you have run the repair tool successfully (heh) then go to your bin folder and run exefile.exe again.

if that does not work

download the files chribba linked and follow his instructions.

Either of these methods should work.

Okay, this worked for me and hopefully for others as well.

Run the repair tool until it works. It failed for me 4 times but the 5th time it worked.

Then launch the game with ExeFile located in the bin directory.

The key seems to be being patient with the repair tool.

Our dev teams are indeed working on fixing the whole issue with top priority. Unfortunately in situations like these we cannot predict any ETA and giving a time frame would be very irresponsible. Be assured though that we are working as hard as possible to find a proper solution as fast as possible.

As CCP Guard pointed already to further background information in this news article and in that thread.

Please also accept our apologies for this unfortunate chain of events.

how about a rollback of the change?

QFT

Seriously. Its the most responsible option. Rollback, then troubleshoot/fix. Deploy when it is actually working.

But they would need a robust Change Management solution and the necessary expertise to run it to do that, both things they don't appear to have :(

CCP if you are so poor at Change Management, or you lack the XP to do it, please eve mail me (i'll use gate to read it) and i can give you some pointers

Everything else I tried failed, but this worked perfectly, try it if you want to bypass the client and login successfully. Big smile

Quote:

1) Locate the folder where you installed EVE. If you are not sure where that folder is, see http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_default_directories
2) From the EVE installation folder, open the folder called “bin” and there you will find the ExeFile.exe
3) Run this ExeFile.exe to start the EVE Online client

I have tried the workarounds, such as a direct launch, and when I get to the login page, it simply states for online status "Incompatible (Protocol)". I feel like I am going back in time to when we used to see that whenever we would need to install a new patch back over 5 years ago. I installed the patch for the new launcher, and it is saying that I have no connection to the server. The links you told me to go to timed out.

same here!
now i'm angry dear CCP
