After today's patch I'm completely unable to play. I start the game with the exe file, it downloads the patch and exits out as normal, the patch installs and then tries to open the new launcher. As the new launcher can't work out that i'm connected to the internet the patch doesn't complete.

So now when i try to open eve using the exe file I'm stuck in a loop of "An update has been downloaded EVE will now close and apply the patch" with it being unable to complete because your new launcher doesn't work.

have you tried opening the launcher to let it patch, then closing it and starting via the exefile?

Anyone else laughing their asses off at how complicated CCP has made something as simple as logging into the damn game?

This new eve launcher needs the option to copy and paste your password in for logging on,because i cant logon with my other account unless i change my password now, because i have no clue what keys to press to get some things!

Without any EVE running, be sure to kill off any zombie launcher.exe's before attempting to patch

Zanzibar run Repair.exe and then run exefile again. It worked for me today. Maybe will work tomorrow too Roll

I, like many others, have been playing this game for a long time.

Over the years, there have been countless occasions like this, where CCP ignore feedback on the test forums and bring a bag of crap onto TQ regardless.

Each time this happens, it takes away some respect I have for CCP, and there really is not much left at this point. In fact, there is none left. They are a bunch of egotistical, arrogant fools who refuse to learn by each monumental **** up they produce. They really do not give a ****.

It will not take much more for me to cancel my 8 accounts and finally walk away. It will hurt after all this time, but I will do it. If the upcoming patch is a disaster, that may be the end. I love this game, but as many have said, a person can only take so much of this crap before it really becomes such a chore that it isn’t worth it anymore.

Before you ask, when (as it’s seems to be only a matter of time) I walk away, no one will have my stuff... I have lots and lots of it and it will get biomassed along with my 24 characters.

Besides all the main issues. Found this today.

Was playing. went to switch to an alt (pain in the ass now) clicked on play and then get the windows is working icon, then the launcher buttons for playing disappear. Close and restart launcher still no buttons for play, enter username, etc. so go to settings and click eve repair tool, repair tool starts and tells me to close the launcher. Did you guys really not program the launcher to close itself so it could update? I had to go to task mgr and do it manually, and why were there two launchers running when i only started once instance of it? it also said update available??? I thought updates were supposed to roll out automatically??? now i have to hit repair tool for it to update? Seriously, quit ******* with **** that doesn't need it and work on things that do.

EDIT to add

JUST had the repair tool halfway thru, 5 minutes or so, and then gave an error and close. Nice job breaking the game WITH THE ******* LOGIN ffs

Use ExeFile.exe

But for how long?

It is already announced that this login method will be taken away in the near future.

And that is exactly the reason why the whole launcher business is such a pain in my sensible body parts. If it wasn't for the announcement to remove the in-game login screen, I would have trashed the launcher already and move to exefile right away.

But I am afraid that will not work for long.

not sure if this has been mentioned yet (this thread is 126 pages so haven't read all of them) but I've noticed that after the game launches the process launcher.exe is running 2 instances on my machine ... ending the processes manually seems to improve performance greatly ... someone may want to look into

1) why the launcher continues to run after the game has launched
2) why 2 instances for 1 instance of the game

Even more important is the question why the two launcher instances do not terminate when you close the launcher window. On WinXP the window disappears, but the launcher.exe processes continue to run and consume hundreds of MB of RAM (for what exactly?? Damn it just shows a stupid website....). Even worse, if you click the EvE icon stuff starts AGAIN - yes, that 4 launcher.exe processes running consuming even more RAM. The only way to terminate them is to KILL the processes in the task manager....

It is so obvious that this has never been tested. Glitches might slip through QA. Webserver fail is bad luck. But the program not terminating is serious software FAIL. Furthermore, having a program that checks the version and files of another program and presents a small website SHOULD NOT NEED TO EAT 80 MB RAM!!!

I mean WTF were they thinking?

I think you have officially moved into the 'Part Of The Problem' category.

The point is that CCP has apparently gone brain dead about the launcher issues. No response in hours.

Possibly because the relevant devs are asleep? It's 5AM in Iceland.

Oh boy they will be in for quite a workday........

Yay! Spent half an hour on Tuesday figuring out how to bypass the launcher so that I can play EVE. Then, two days later, get a new patch that once again renders me unable to log in.

I never would have thought I would threaten to unsub over the launcher. But I'm rapidly emptying my reserve of time I'm willing to (or can afford to) spend doing tech support in order to play this game. So, I mean, I guess if it's still not working when my sub comes due, I can't imagine choosing to pay for a game I can't play.

I know the feeling. It's not so much the launcher (which is a show stopper in and of itself) but rather the blatant indifference by the devs about SERIOUS problems with it. We got the same crap from them last year when they borked the inventory system to hell and back.

Players: THIS IS CRAP AND DOESN'T WORK!
CCP: Here, we gave you a stupid Autoplay checkbox that lets you start watching the "Launching..." thing faster. You now don't have to wait as long to start waiting. Deal with it and STFU...

They miss the entire point almost as a matter of course. It's like they avoid fixing the real issues like having to wait 15 seconds to log in another account on purpose then tell us it's our fault.

Use it while it works.

you joking right, I can only patch 1 install at a time.

I do how ever like the fact your using the old patch process if you launch directly form the bin folder eve exe, just a shame I have to work around your pile of crap launcher in the first place

why does it still not remember account names after its patched?
why do I need to accept the agreement every time I open it?
why the hell is it validating the client every time its opened?
why are you trying your hardest to remove multibox support?

bin exe ftw, for the love of god do break this work around

OMG when can i get a pic here

That may be, but I'd rather they worked on the "feature" before releasing it, contrary to now where it's after release.

When the "Launching..." *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* *wait* crap is gone then I will believe this. Until then in my mind they are just drinking beer and sniffing volcano gas.

And now they release a new patch which didn't really fix any of the problems. It still takes forever to validate, it still looks ugly, and still everyone hates it. Just ******* get rid of this launcher business, I'm sorry that it makes it harder to homogenize your game when you outsource your coding to an Icelandic slum village, but tough *******.

You have to wonder why any company would force through a change like this so close to another MAJOR change to the game......

unless of course the Odyssey Patch has elements that actually require this Launcher SSO configuration to work ......

in which case, we may have a Launcher that doesnt work, that is responsible for adding in any major content patches that it has so far managed to make a mess of handling, that then may not be fully functional in time for the next even larger content patch on 4th of June.........

I have a bad feeling about this.

While they are working on this. Could they please reduce the time it takes to check the files please.

  1. If I use the direct eve.exe, I'm straight in with a quick right click paste.
  2. If I use the launcher, I go and make myself a drink while it checks those files again. Even though I know they are fine.
