Out of Pod Experience

Yiole stood at the bed as the door shut behind Random. Despite her mental habits of stiffing under hard circunstances and the awareness of the power of pod technology, a not-completely-human part of her mind was scared to see Random leave to go to meet violence.

She went to take a shower and clean herself from that thought, and as water ran on her skin -the walls still were warm after the last use, and she would swear she could sense Random's smell- she started making her mind on what would be next.

Due to a unforeseen turn of events, she had just lost her latest two lovers in less than a week, at least temporally. That would be an issue worth thinking about later. Also was the issue with the expiracy of her pilot license in a few days. What would she do? She had acquired a pilot license extension that could be used at any time, but as was becoming usual since she took her first break from piloting, she was feeling increasinly tired and jaded of her activites as a capsuleer.

Thinking grimly about it, she would feel the temptation to regret her transformation to a capsuleer. Nothing on the other side of the fence had readied her for a realization which Ishtanchuk -always the thoughtful one, always the stark one- had summarized clearly: "we are parasites".

Capsuleers feasted on the body of civilization, running their own economy (an economy where a nuclear missile costed 20 ISK, and a cubic meter of H2O, 200 ISK), and that economy only served to take the lives of endless crewmen and return nothing but a few taxes and clone fees to the real world. Capsuleers lived for and by destruction; a miner like Yiole could earn millions as the fruit of her labor would became either target or destroyer, feeding an endless spiral of violence caused by egotism, psychosis and impunity. And why? Because being immortal is boring? What's the urge to live, when life it's been deprived of meaning by evading death? And so the most spoiled and deranged brats in the universe created their own virtual world, playing their violence games well away of the sight of human race, taking and not giving back, forever.

"We are parasites" -muttered Yiole. "And we better don't question our role too much".

Then she dressed herself as the Robo-Aides started cleaning the mess in Random's appartment. Yiole smiled with the recalling of when, how and why had the chaos spread around, albeit many of it had happened in circunstances where Yiole was to busy with her insides as to notice the outer world.

Yiole opened the door and exited the appartment without looking back. Then she went downstairs and saw the quiet bar, and then recalled it was weekend (saturday already?) and on weekends most patrons had other stuff to do. Like war, or tools to war, or targets to war. "Would have Random had departed yet...?". The thought crossed her mind and then, shaking her head, Yiole walked to the bar and talked to Indahmawar:

- Hi, sweetie!
- Hi, Yiole. Good to have some news on you... albeit last time you looked quite good -Indah winked.
- Please tell, Indah... Does sex, as in "a crazy lot of splendorous sex", make you start worrying afterwards about the meaning of your life...?

And as Indah opened her eyes wider and wider, Yiole started laughing louder and louder...
