You mean that game made by the same dude that made Wing Commander?

If you're expecting it to be anything like EVE, apart from the setting being in space, you're sadly mistaken.

So.. why exactly are they paying a whole team with their own office? If they're not going to develop it?

They already cutted most of WoD resources after the Incarna fail. They keep it cause is a prestigious brand, I think they will resell it.

Seriously, CCP is an amazing company, but they cannot develop THREE game at same time. They already struggling to release Dust, and keeping EvE on a mantainence releases level (Cruccible, Inferno and Retribution aren't true expansion, but just mantainence releases).
Not even Blizzard has resources to develop 3 games at same time.

That's not really what I meant. However, they haven't had anyone working on it for some time now. The sleeve tattoos have been a long time coming. So I'm not really sure how that's going.

something truly epic to reveal at EVE's 10th anniversary Fanfest right? :D.

We can only hope.

Yeah I suspect they might be a 1.1/2/3 feature of Retribution

Star Citizen is just going to come out and be mediocre

Just be happy with Eve cause it's the best video game ever created

Its called 'Star Citizen'. Nuff said.

You guys who backed this, I find astonishing when Elite: Dangerous is also being pimped and offers way more attractive gameplay concepts. I hate Wing Commander tbh.

The whole WoD to WiS thing was scrapped over a year ago I think.

Most are hoping Dust will intro WiS.

Scaled back, not scrapped.

Yeah, that's another one i'm watching.

Both these games know EVE is their only real competition, and they're specifically trying to offer everything this does and more.

True. They did have some WoD updates in last years fanfest so it's not swimming with the fishies.

I would imagine the 'doesn't work' part of carbon WiS was in dust and if they had to put us in a station with WoD carbon and Dusties in the same station with another engine.

Yeah, the Atlanta team seemed pretty sure they have jobs when I saw them at Fanfest. They're up to something, they had a cowboy hat and everything. [Legit]

For those of you interested in WiS content, like myself, you will be disheartened to find out that it seems CCP have pulled the plug on using Carbon as the engine for the World of Darkness game.

Now, many of you will probably be thinking "What does that have to do with WiS?" Well, for a long time we had been under the impression that the World of Darkness team were developing gameplay using the Carbon engine, which meant animations, characters, environments etc would be getting worked on away from Eve so that eventually when they were better developed and would be able to get generalised to Eve to give us WiS content.

Because they have stopped using Carbon, it means no one is working on it. The Eve Avatar team have been re-assigned to making UI changes a while ago which means that now NO ONE at CCP is working on anything resembling WiS. It has been completely and utterly dropped.

Isn't this now the second engine you've completely dropped? Am I the only person who is more than a little pissed off about this?

Do you still find my latest post about WIS to negative?

Will either of those games be a single-shard PvP MMO with a loss-based economy? No? No competition then.

Oh sure, EVE will probably lose some of its worst carebears, and I'm not saying I won't play them, but EVE is an entirely different beast.

Just a few pointers here.

That website you linked isn't run by CCP or White Wolf, the statement they make has no citations and thus lacks credibility and you appear to have taken what they did say entirely out of context. The CARBON framework was developed and used by both the EVE and WoD teams up until the point where it became clear that EVE's needs and those of World of Darkness were parting ways to such an extent that continued joint development was no longer a viable option.

It would make sense at that point to slow down and divide the teams to work on their own. Further more CCP have made no statement at all regarding permanently shelving the idea of further Avatar based game-play, nor have they dropped the CARBON framework for use in EVE. It may help to understand exactly what CARBON is before going off an a tangent that may serve only to make you or others appear foolish.

Here is a link to the Dev Blog that describes what CARBON is and what it means for EVE, both now and into the future;

CARBON Technology Framework and the Core Technology Group.

As you can see, the idea of CCP ditching the CARBON Framework is not just factually incorrect, but it is not actually possible. I think people need to do a little more research on subjects before making blanket statements, all it does is rile people up unnecessarily.

The point is that there are options. Its not about better or worse its about finding a game that suits your perception of a Space MMO.

Its also good to have competitors. It keeps everyone honest and ultimately the Consumer wins.

Neither of those games is an MMO, much less a single-shard MMO, so they're not directly competing.

That's also the beauty of EVE: you can only really choose your friends, your enemies can be anyone.

CCP has no sense of humour.
