Can't speak for him, but i like mining because i can do it in windowed mode while doing other things online, like posting on forums. If i ever really need to make ISK i go do L4s, but as a non-pvp player i don't have to replace ships as often, and you eventually run out of things to buy.

You mean you can't run level 4 missions in windowed mode while browsing the forums, semi-afk?

Jeez what ships do you guys use? Shocked

While this may seem like the "honourable" thing to do, the smart thing to do is to overwhelm your enemy and ensure victory before you even engage. I suggest you read Sun-Tzu's art of war - while honour certainly plays it's part in Eastern battlefield techniques, even the Japanese weren't foolish enough to give the Americans a chance to fight back when they bombed Pearl Harbour. Was it cowardly? You could probably make an argument for that, but the only stupid thing they did was holding back their third wave - if they'd sent in the third wave, whose target was the fuel and ammo dumps, it would have cut America's Pacific Fleet's fuel supplies by more than 80%, effectively neutering them in WWII.

I don't think anyone that's actually playing the game and knows how things work is looking to "prove themselves" in PvP. You don't fight to prove yourself, you fight to win.

Years ago i lost a Domi during a conversation on the forums. To the infamous Smash the Supplier mission. That's what you want for semi-AFK mission running.

I just don't have any reason to want the extra isk from L4s anymore. The only thing left for me to buy is a carrier or titan, and they're not very appealing to me.

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

What does a Tolkien poem have to do with anything?

Seriously, I'm just on my first coffee of the morning, and this is far too abstract a thing to start my day with.

Please sit your fleet right there, Kcolor will be along to "pvp" with you shortly.

Pay no attention to the 40 hostiles in local already... they're just afking.

For now.

I just got front row seats to a kill by Naughty Rustled on a guy afk mining in a Talos..... it was GLORIOUS!!! No battleclinic killmail for it yet, though, which is a shame.

I did, however, get a great screenshot of the assault showing the Talos pilot continuing to mine as if completely oblivious to the attack.

Then why would you ever need to mine?

I'm self sufficient. I build my own ammo and ships.

What some call self sufficiency, others call a waste of time.

The point I'm trying to make is that time spent mining or producing is taking away from time you could be blowing up red plus signs of varying thickness for considerably more ISK.

You don't get players diversity.

Other sandbox games, even pre-dating EvE, could be less focused on PvP but as much focused on crafting, accomplishment and "I made it!" feeling. In particular, one of those accomplishments were to train many craft schools to the maximum and self craft everything.
I am one of those. I self gun-mined and crafted everything by myself from a Rifter to a JF o carrier or marauder and that gives me a sweet feeling.

This is a problem with EVE. It's often more fun to PVP in another game.

Not that I have any idea on how to 'fix' it.

I'm not saying don't do it, if that's what blows your goat, go for it. All I'm saying is these bumpers/gankers need to stop saying that they're uber 1337 PVP'ers. It takes (virtualy) no skill to do.

I just turned into an egg, did I level up? I spent an hour trying to salvage a wreck, when in local a guy said "Stop it, this is my Tempest, I was AFK"

I don't recall them making these claims. I think you're jumping to conclusions and making such silly exaggerations. I would also look a few of them up on Battleclinic KMs if I were you - preferably before you jump to conclusions.

Please link for us a single post where a self-professed ganker or bumper claimed that ganking or bumping was "uber 1337 PVP".

Most people who have more fun pvping in other games like the "corpse cannon" aspect other games generally adhere to (respawns etc).

Eve has a better feel of "finality" as you have to replace your equipment (and re insure your clone). Which in turn breeds respect for your skillsets a bit more than going 3k 26d in Call of Duty.

The actual problem though, is the mentality that thinks just because the game is player versus player, people automatically assume shooting. Which is of course the easiest thing to do, and by no means am I slighting it, but it is not the only thing to do against another player. Nor is it as creative as some of the more finer aspects of pvp.

E honor and all that crap went the way of Yo MTV Raps. (Although dueling has it's place I guess). But if you want to equate pvp to bumping, then James 315 definitely would be considered "leet pvp" because he gets people to CONCORD flip (as opposed to a silly little can) and singlehandedly wins wars, AND can negotiate and localchatpvp with the best of them. Not only does he get people blown up, he gets them to blow themselves up, give him isk, and can rally the troops to join a CAUSE.

All without firing a shot. That in effect, takes quite a bit of skill.

All this in a sea of afk bots.

Sun Tzu boss. And he was a war strategist not a petty thug, so I don't see what he would be upset about. To be clear though, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a low-grade thug, in Eve anyway, but call a spade a spade and all that.
