CCP: No. Leave the megathron alone. Stop it.

This megathron quote in particular:
"Megathron: just like the Thorax on the cruiser level, the Megathron role will be changed slightly to make it less resilient, but more mobile so to make proper use of blasters. Think of it as a ship closer to the Typhoon in terms of speed and agility. Next to a Talos, it will be more durable, more flexible, but still cumbersome to have in small gangs."

The Gallente BS hulls already have roles; Hyperion, Dominix, Megathron are specialized ships that do their respective things well(and not so well).
Dominix: AFK drone mission runner.
Hyperion: General fail blaster boat
Megathron: General use, malleable BS

Make the Hyperion the "BS thorax" and leave the mega with its respectable tank.

.....unless you aren't going to touch the Faction and Marauder variants. Then I guess....it might be slightly ok.

It already has abysmally low EHP for a battleship. They're doing it wrong.

Drop a midslot, lower its PG, whatever to balance more speed, but nerfing its EHP will essentially cripple the ship into Hyperion territory.

Yeah but big ships were made to go real fast and blow up ships with close range weapons. In no way is that a parody of fat people fighting.

Idk this megathron change seems the equivalent of Ford motors announcing it will be placing all headlights on the sides of it's cars because it new...and different.

Fix the hyperion, don't break the megathron.

Confirming megas have been dominating nullsec pvp because of their excellent tank for years.

I all seriousness though, the mega as it currently stands is a ship to aspire to for most new Gallente pilots.
The only reason it might be consider "too versatile" is because of the failings of the Hyperion which forces the mega to operate both as a pvp blaster boat and as a rail cheap pve ship.

If anything, take that launcher slot

Eeeehhhh... Currently, the ship to aspire to for most Gallente pilots is the Rokh.

It uses hybrids and does everything the mega does better.

The problem lies in the fact that the Mega is slow and flimsy by battleship standards.

Hopefully they just make mega shield tanked. That way it still has EHP as well as faster speed to it.

Because the entire design philosophy of Gallente ships (armor tanked = slow / blasters and bonuses = short range) is fundamentally flawed.

They need to be fast and beefy to survive the approach and start applying their significant DPS. They aren't.

Nerfing one characteristic to boost the other does not solve the problem even remotely.

Honest, as little bittervet as I can manage?

Optimals bonus on the Rokh make it a better ship. Most dps in EVE is principle only dps. MWD fit armor tanks take huge and unrecoverable damage due to sig rad penalty making speed tank damage prone. They just don't work.

I guess it depends on the fit and piloting style. I've never used a T1 mega, so it's not a fair comparison, but I don't use armor rigs or plates on my PvE ships, so my mega would be faster than the rokh and track better while having more DPS from the guns if same size fit. This is why I ask. I can see how the range could be useful, but at least running missions there are quite a few which throw you in at a range where unbonused tracking would seem disadvantageous.

This was looking at PvE, so both would likely be rail fit and reps and resist mods don't have a negative affect on speed. Also I wonder if blasters really benefit more from the tracking bonus than rails.

I find Serpentis missions, while the PvE will rush you and orbit in close, they start very far out. They never get to me in a Rokh. They will if I am in a Gallente ship. I use a bit more ammo with a Rokh but it does a better job at providing real dps.

HINT: they do. Tracking is expressed in radians / second.
