Having competition is good for EVE actually. At least, it will remove the pressure to be everyone's space sim MMO by lack of alternatives and will allow CCP to focus in EVE being EVE.

Also, having more offer will draw in new customers, some of which will try a game in the niche and then shift to another one that better suits their tastes.

Anybody who wishes EvE was twitch-based, try Star Conflict. It's on Steam, and it's awesome, though only arenas atm.

CCP could have implemented twitch-based arenas in some form or another, but no, they kept on going with their alt-based business model, which means you basically need to fund several accounts if you want to get anywhere solo in this game, or get recognition in your corp, since NO OFFICERS EVER in any meaningful corp only have a single account. Most have more than three.

I dearly wish that all those new upcoming space game nos the hell out of the EvE playerbase, since CCP has gone the way of the greedy and cynical, forcing people to pay (in time or RL) more than one account to get anywhere in this game.

I've had a single account for nearly as long as the game has existed( nearly 10 years now), and while i fully agree it does take a lot longer to get anywhere in the game by using a single account, it's still possible but you need to be the type of person with a lot of patience...P

It doesn't stop CCP from constantly harrasing me with half price specials on a second char for 6 months for the last several years just the same and i've never taken advantage of the offer......Heck being one of the oldest players in the game, i'm not that far from seriously hitting a skill training wall as this char is close to 200 million SP and 160 skills to lvl 5.

I'll still wait on Starbound.

I mine so you can have the fuel to run your POS.

Have you thanked a miner today?

Moscow in the 30th century concept art from Star Citizen.

I want to be there. There's even a woman in a white dress who could be Ishtanchuk... Twisted

Stanton landing sequence video storyboard

All's going well, as Star Citizen beefes up and goes to places EVE can't.

Lets face the facts...

(and whisper it so the ISD and Dev's don't hear it, don't want Ego Inflation lvl5 in the training queue)

EvE is really good, and nothing really comes close to it.

There is also Star Conflict the space dogfighting mmo... well I think it's an mmo. Great visuals.

I'm Naomi Hale and this is my favourite thread on the forums.

it will take years for them to be as polished as eve... i don't see why ccp would have to work double shifts because of them :)

a good example are theme park based mmorpgs like wow. one after another failed because there is already a polished game out.

Utterly wrong, this game is in no way polished. The one very big thing it is would be broken.

I would take a guess and say that Valve has funds only CCP can dream of. Therefore if they wanted to....expect a game to be created that is better than Eve.

I love this game however but never ever underestimate another workshop thinking that Eve is the end game for space based MMOs because that's when something comes along and kicks its a$$. CCP have very clearly lost all passion for the game.

Yes the new videos are nice with CCP verysmallguy being rather funny "bounty hunting" but CCP continue to NOT fix things that we have been asking for a very long time.

Just watched the video for RSI and yeah the graphics most seriously kick Eves behind in truth....real time rendered and you can see its got tessellation built in, probably directX10 possibly 11?

Bioware/EA/SWTOR prove that throwing a lot of money at a project doesn't necessarily make it good.

Nikolai..... they threw a bunch of money at it, just for the licensing. Of course it's crap. They had nothing left to spend on an actual game, once they finished writing enough zeroes to make George Lucas comfortable with letting them do it. So, they pretty much re-skinned Neverwinter Nights.

I get upset sometimes, and say mean things about EVE... but I have not experienced everything in the game, so I am not qualified to judge it.

remember when you first started playing, and every new sound and notification was a huge mystery? I still get that.

in contrast, what do you want to bet you'll have valve's game figured out in a day.

that I should worry about losing my hearing is nonsense, because there will always be -=BASS=-

I will never believe anything about a game "dethroning" EVE , when "they" keep publishing products with decades old CLASS AND LEVEL systems.

The whole concept is the bane of all innovation and has led us to the current DARK AGE of MMO Gaming.

We haven´t seen any real progress since UO/EQ1 ... Most of the concepts, mechanics and reward systems are just endless permutations of the same basic concepts.

Only EVE has threaded ground in allowing a ugly looking, boring, dull sounding, elevator music themed ,repetitive spreadsheets in space interface where the real content is simply Player Driven by the sheer pressure of economics, politics and racketeering (plus many other things) enforced on others by HUMANS.

No game ever will be able to do this until they create an empty box that has a set of rules and simple tools that entices people to game it and metagame it to the end.

I see people praising this or that game in being "groundbreaking" and "looking awesome" when all you will end up with is single player, fps multiplayer fests badly thrown into a grinder with little consequence to your actions.

Eve will die when the core userbase that makes EVE a player driven game leaves.

Even though it would greatly enhance the game somehow (and this is highly debatable) to have barbies in space, bars, dust and whatnot, CCP should only be afraid of their own ineptitude (as proven in the past with the Incarna FIasco) at UNDERSTANDING their own game and not seeing PEOPLE here make the content, all they can do is provide basic guidelines of possible emergent gameplay people MIGHT be interested in

If any of these new games enables you to do the SAME, giving you just tools and basic guidelines to create a community that predates on itself in several levels, then CCP should be worried.

Eve by itself blows, it´s empty, dull, lifeless and arid, EVE with the Community is just Marvelous, is dynamic . You can´t take one out of the other without destroying the whole concept.

And to be honest, I am still here because of the community. The Ragequits, the tears, the extortion, the freaks, the scammers, the gullible and the deceived, the madness of it all, the song of humanity free of several real life constraints flowing in here.

People hating other for a sector of virtual space, people ganging up on the lone wolves, the inexperienced, the travelers, the explorers. EVE blows alone, but when I am passing by systems and see someone dropping probes, or when I find a gravimetric site and see it filled with orcas and corp members mining riches in deep space pockets, the mission runners that tweak their ships to their max potentials, the Jita scammers , the nutcases that preach ingame, the minerbumping clans, the neutral parties that offer themselves as safety layers, the people that fly into lo sec roaming, the Faction Warriors, the freighter services, the mercenaries, people doing so many many things in a game where all I see in others is just people grinding the same mobs, for the same gear to grind newer mobs for same looking gear that is simply "better".

No really. No other game can give you that, because it´s you that makes it. And this is so ATROCIOUS to some people.

Shocks me to see that. EVE is just the only sandbox game I can recall at hand that has this type of community. I know Perpetuum exists, but don´t know anything about it.

Why aren´t there more Sandbox games????

And I lost my train of thought ... again Lol

Because they are incompatible with the majority of people and thus make less money for the greedy corporations that would develop them.

Level 6 Ego skills are being worked on ;) or rather, a new level 5 ego skillset, when 95% of the playerbase gets to level 5 :D
