Highly unlikely that you'll be able to stream videos from your computer to everyone else in your CQ. Neat idea, technologically difficult (and probably illegal as you likely don't have broadcasting rights on the videos).

Exactly. This is, and will be, for local consumption only.

you do know there is this wonderfull little website called youtube... perhaps ifyou made the in game browers work with youtube and made it so when CQ is loaded that the IGB is your TV then i could stream videos from you tube/netflix and not have to worry about copy right issues...

the tricky part would be sharing this with others who would eventually join me in my CQ... but i am sure there is a way if the devs wanted to devote enough time to it...

They did that already. "Eve is real". Somebody's actually got their thinking caps on up there on the icey lands :-)

And... Considering how smart and computer savvy many Eve players are, it continues to astound me how clueless and narrowminded they are. Do you really think this was a bug in the first place? The only bug is that some ppl found out before CCP were ready to release it. If you've ever coded a piece of software from the ground up, you know that functionality doesn't pop up randomly.

tldr: It's been in the architecture all along. Now it's in the feature booklet.

Now they need a section for properly encoded BINK versions of those videos, thus saving people from having to fiddle with getting their own coversions right.

Just a thought.

As a related side note to people that have asked about it, I don't doubt that the abilty to stream to this scrreen may be in the cards (when time allows), but an "outside view" of the station you are in is a vastly different proposition than simply streaming other content. While that would be viewed by many to be the ultimate useful feature that could possibly be developed for CQ, it would require a significant amount of dev time to accomplish. Still, it would be the ultimate tie in between WIS and FIS content.

There's a small difference between showing youtube videos to your friends, writing a personal application, and selling a product like EVE with YouTube or Netflix. CCP NEEDs permission from Google and Netflix to stream the video. Possible, yes, but I'd much prefer my CQ load a couple BIKs off my hard drive than start streaming Netflix every time I dock.

be sure you are including the audio when converting to bik. I am finding even having that check box marked doesn't always work with flv/mp4/etc files from YouTube so I am looking at TPB for avi versions (like the music videos on YouTube but on TPB in avi). Fortunately I found HQ versions of the files I want but they are in mkv so now I have to educate myself on finding an easy to use mkv to Bink usable files to convert to bik.

Myabe... Maybe not... its not like any other web browser needs permission to run youtube or netflix all the in game browser would need is the codex or html5 or what ever the IGB is missing to render youtube and netflix...

also i would like the ING when CQ is loaded to be the TV... basically i sit down on the couch load the TV it becomes my internet and takes up most of the screen...

IMO this would be the simple way to get multiple people to view the same video as you if they are in your CQ(when that is alloud)

though this is just my dream... and think it would be awesome to see but no rush on it...

Bam, youtube on the EVE screens, and im sure you could get it to stream to other players as well if they visit your captains quarters, or even station side bars. Really though, i've seen programs for multiplayer games that allow youtube to be broadcasted to multiple users, its not -terribly- hard, just might require a little work.

You must be new here. CCP can't even give us Amarr, Caldari, or Gallente quarters. They haven't given us the promised 5th T3 subsystem. FW is forgotten and unfinished. COSMOS is broken and unfinished. 0.0 is broken, lowsec is forgotten. Ships are horribly unbalanced and have been for years, and you think somebody will ever be able to visit your quarters? HAHA, I'll be shocked if it ever happens.

Even if they could, what's the point? Everyone's CQ looks exactly the same, and probably will forever. CCP has decided to sell the cosmetic stuff that will enable you to make your CQ unique in the NEX store, with their ludicrous prices and **** poor selection. Want to buy a new couch? That will cost you as much as a real couch. There's no variety in the stuff and the prices are beyond ridiculous. Incarna was a spectacular failure on so many levels and CCP has already stuck their head in the sand about it, left it as is, and moved on to different shiny promises that they'll either never deliver, or complete half way and then abandon.

For CQ (and WiS in general) to succeed, it has to be integrated to the rest of the game. NPCs should drop cosmetic items in addition to their current loot. You should get trophies from kills, players should be able to make clothes, furniture, etc. There should be artists devoting all of their time to creating more and more items to put on your toon and in your room, and they should completely remove the NEX store and Aurum. Wait, what am I thinking? This is CCP. They said they were going to revamp the art of all the ships starting with the Scorpion (which looks good by the way) and then abandoned it like they always do.

I just realized that it's more fun to get on these forums and ***** about CCP that it is to actually log in and play their game in which every feature set is either broken or half finished with a UI that would have made people recoil in horror in 1990.

Okay so I now have "Day of Darkness II" playing on my CQ View Screen! (loved that video)

Would be great to see EVE Files put up some .bik downloads of player made EVE movies/ shorts...

Now what we need is CCP to enable a mechanism for player created content ingame ,such as ingame .bik CORP RECRUITMENT video!!!!

NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

Listening to what the players are doing and then incorporating it: A step into the right direction, good!

But ...

Please, please allow as input also video streams!

And please, some in-game (channel) controls!

But video streams as input would rock even without any controls. You would win BIG if you would do that asap.

what settings should be used in that RAD Video Tools ? im using videos that should work like Eve trailers and i have turned them into .bink files using the default settings on RAD, is that wrong ? cause the videos play in my CQ but they're buggy, the sound is messed up and the video is blocky... but when i just play the same file out of eve it plays fine

Conversion from mkv>xxxx>bik is a problem though unless I am doing it wrong. Also I can't seem to get mp4>bik right or something. Conversion either crashes RAD or just gives error opening file.

One thing I don't like about CQ video is the lack of randomness in playback. It plays all your videos in the same order at once then the default videos and back around to your videos in the same order again.

I've wanted to do this for eons, I used to run a server that shuffled through every episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) 24-hours a day.

It added some very nice ambiance to the game, I had VLC running in a small, frameless window that was always on top, sitting in a corner of the Eve ui. Floating in space, watching other people stranded in space gets interesting, adding both to Eve and to MST.

Is there *any* chance that you could add a video player to the in-space GUI? Obviously it could be turned on and off, but if you let players create channels, and be genuinely creative with content, you'd get 10x the amount of goodwill you get from fashions...

Sure, we can play video in a browser or whatever while we're playing Eve, but having video content IN the game, while it's fullscreen, adds a very nice level of immersion.
