So re-reading through the thread another common theme is the loss of expensive pods or loss of training speed using a cheap clone. There are a couple of ways to mitigate this I thought might be helpful to bring up for those who aren't aware.

Firstly jumpclones, this is especially useful for those of you who are mission runners and might have +8 standing to a corporation or two. Using jump clones you can spend the week doing your non combat activities in your expensive clone and swap to a cheaper clone for the weekend, if you get caught in your empty pod the loss will be minimal and the loss of increased training speed for a day or two is tiny. There are also corps you can join ("Estel Arador Corp Services" for example) that will allow you to create these clones without the required standings, provided you have the infomorph psychology skill.

As for being caught in your pod, unless you are in null sec or a wormhole bubble (or suffering from lag / desynch) you should pretty much always be able to escape after a fight with your pod intact. At the point of no return (when you know for certain your ship is going down) pick a celestial on your overview. Click it and slowly spam (maybe twice a second or so) the warp button. When your ship finally pops you will near-instantly warp off in your pod. Don't click too fast, it can freak out the client.

Another point to raise is that of remapping your attributes. An unmapped player using +3 implants is only training about as fast as a player who has favourably mapped 2 attributes and has no implants. If you are training a specific area, say gunnery or ships etc you can remap to the 2 attributes used and keep a cheap head free to use without worry. Admittedly this is of less use to younger players who are still mixing their training between categories, but something a slightly older toon could consider so as to maximise both training time and freedom to dive in and have fun.

I hope that you can see that you are not stuck in your expensive clone anymore than you are that expensive ship, there are options available to you if you fancy trying out pvp as a weekend warrior :) I know that's how I started! Good luck out there and have fun!

The fact is, the things CCP would have to do to get more people to pvp (again other than recruiting bikers and gang members, but they are too busy being in real life prision...) would break pvp, in the exact same way the things ccp would have to do to get more people to go to null sec would (more rewards wouldn't do t, the ONLY thing that will get ore people to populate null is a level of safety so high it wouldn't be null anymore)

This is one of the most pertinent points in this thread.

You know what? I've posted here a few times (on other accounts) and I had my bittervet moments but in truth, nothing keeps me from PvPing really. I don't depending on your definition but I don't have any barriers in the game that stop me. There is just nothing I see worth fighting for right now. Any time in the past where I was willing to fight for something, it was usually someone elses something and they weren't willing to fight for it so I didn't.

I went to Eudama and tried to help. Didn't work but it was PvP. I made my stand as small as it was. Jita Burn, I showed, I undocked, not much happened but I made my stand. Is the question, what keeps me from PvPing or what keeps me from losing ships in bicker fights? I PvP every day. I just don't always shoot people in space ships.
