I have had this problem a lot, even after Odyssey. However, as silly as it sounds, if I ping Tranquility before I start the game and leave it pinging, I have never gotten another socket closed error. Any time I forget to do this I always get the socket closed error.

I think it forces the hit to avoid lost packets. Not sure but it works for me, perhaps it will work for you too.

What do you mean by pinging tranquility?

I have been running Ping Plotter against CCP server IP 87.237.38.200 with the following settings-

Sampling= Unlimited
Trace Interval= 5 sec
Samples to include= ALL

I am running all 3 of my accounts on the same system with no Socket Disconnect problems. But if I try and play without PP running I get disconnected right away.

I have to use IPNetMonitorX since it's a mac....any idea on how to put those settings in for this program?

im surprised why people still think this is client or server related... at this point it should be obvious it isn't.

Sony is having this same problem with Planetside2, to the point the entire east coast servers cant be accessed by around 10% - 20% of the player base, they have already said the problem is not with the servers, not with their last-mile ISP provider, its with the Tier 1 provider, level3.

for some stupid reason some people are having some of the most ridiculous problems, like lvl3 servers literally looping a hop between the 2 same servers... im not joking. you send a packet and it goes in a loop.

and if you check forums of other "latency sensitive" products, mainly games... you will see this issue is showing up everywhere. wow forums are plastered with complaints about packet loss and DCs, planetside has had two 50 pages+ threadnaughts on this same issue, dota2 is unbearable right now, specially since everyone is being stupid and blaming this on the release.

honestly, whats really pisses me off is seeing the biggest companies in the industry completely powerless... don't you guys have ANY leverage? level 3 has had routing issues for the last 3 to 5 months, affecting your products and its like you guys don't care.

don't you have a red phone you can call "the others" and assemble like mega zord or something like it? you are getting trampled by a t1 provider that makes money off your content...

ps2 threads on the matter

https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/as-well-as-the-other-problems-crap-flying-everywhere.87669/

the funny thing is the planetside guys figured it out pretty quickly... we are supposed to be smart bunch of the mmo world and we still get people blaming the launcher...

Same thing here, ISP Telefonica, Location Spain.

Though I think it is because I close de launcher window as soon as the game is running.
But the error doen't pop right away... it's when I've been a couple hours playing when it kicks me out

Been playing Eve on and off for 5 years. Never had Socket Closed problem. Everytime I saw people post about it on the forums I figured it was something on their end.

As of last night I am plagued with this issue. I cannot stay connected for more than two hours before socket closed. I have been using the same ISP/PC for most of the 5 years I have played.

ISP: Time Warner
Location: NC, USA.

This is getting pretty ridiculous. I still cannot believe CCP is trying to put the blame on the users end when it's effecting so many people at random times.

On a clean reboot i can connect all four of my accounts at once with out a problem, once I have to log one account out and log back in a few times I start getting the " the socket was closed" error. Once this has happened once, I can no longer connect any of my accounts.
My machine, ISP and OS have not changed in the last 18 months.
Hope they programmers and administrators at CCP can fix this problem because I cant.

ISP: Plusnet (UK)

Since my router had a resync I've not had any closed socket errors. I'm presuming this is because the gateway from the ISP network has changed - am getting much less packet loss from both the ISP gateway and the Level 3 gateway to the Eve server. (as someone else has mentioned, Level 3 almost certainly has something to do with this).

all i know is these issues starting happening for me right after the new launcher came out. in the past 2 months i've moved switched isp's wiped 2pc's both with different os. switched from wireless to wired, reboot my modem/router daily still get dc-ed frequently. often i can stay on few hours. today i get cut off every 15 minutes or so. deleted that pando booster thing i read somewhere in here.

when eve pisses me off enough i play various other online games and i generally get dc-ed from a game maybe once every other day-ish.

playing a game that went f2p few months ago. guess i should start unsubbing my accounts and just keep 1 active for now. it's very frustrating. afraid to do missions, afraid to do anything in 0.0. the only semi safe.secure thing is mining in high sec. yeah thats FUN long term. not!!

Just Restarted my Account after being out a few years and Now I get the "Socket Closed" as well. I've tried everything and no Luck I Hope CCP Does something about this. I've never had a Socket closed and been kicked before. Everyone on eve says its my machine. My machine is clean with windows 8 64bit and other games run fine no kicks at all.... Just curious has anyone ever found a fix or is CCP even trying to address this??

I payed my 3 months access back and can only play every 10 mins..... Perhaps I'll just ask for a refund and file a Complaint...

Add my name to the list. Just came back after 5 years, and every 10 minutes im met with a

"connection lost"
"the socket was closed"

ive heard others mention Hotspot Shield as a fix. i dont like having to use an app just to play one game, but i already payed my month so i guess ill give it a try.

for the last week, have been getting socket closed errors literally every five minutes, nonstop. what's crazy is, I'll be playing on my 15" Macbook Pro with this problem, and my friend on his crappy little netbook doesn't have any connection problems. it's incredibly frustrating not being able to run missions/mine/do anything, cause I keep getting kicked for no reason. also, half the time I don't even get an error message, the game keeps acting like it's playing just fine, but I won't be able to click on anything, even the quit button, making me have to force quit the game. i've tried clearing my game cache, resetting my router, restarting my computer, with no change in result. I live in Austin, TX, and I use AT&Ts 20 MBps fibre connection. would love to have this problem fixed. I'm sure myself and anyone else experiencing this problem isn't paying 15 bucks a month to not play the game but be logging in every five minutes...

VPN should not fix your problem, the problem is with CCP.....dont patch things up for them.

My thoughts exactly.

Almost everyone having this issue has stated that the problem is ONLY with EvE online, and everything else works well.

I'm experiencing the issue as well.

ISP: Time Warner Cable
Location: Dallas, TX

It appears to be a recent thing. I'll be running multiple clients and both will disconnect at the same time.

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks now. I'll be changing ISP's in the near future and will see if that changes anything. If not, no more EvE Sad Can't play, Wont pay.

I found running the client with Administrator privileges has solved the issue for me.

You suck CCP.

Have had the same isp for 20 years, no issues till recently. Accounts have been open since 2003, no issues till recently. Cable Service Provider Technician(Cox Communications) was here today, tested all the lines, all good. Swapped out the 3rd modem and router. Such a shame sucha good game runs so bad for so many. Cant play longer than 10-15 mins. Can't get anything done since i cannot stay connected. Almost no choice but to cancel.

Already begun looking into other games.

Fix or You'll probably be bankrupt with the user base equal to Gemstone 3 within 3 years..

Been awake since 10:30am, currently 11:45am, been disconnected via socket issue 3 times..

I am sad eve was uninstalled, but another character in another game has been logged in for 12 hours no issue. CCP won't get a clue till they loose subscribers.

Way to go, stability rating less then Blizzards.
