possible fix for Closed Socket error.

Have been having the same error constantly for the last couple of days.
I've forwarded port 26 000, brought hell down on steam and rechecked the router and my firewall.
Tried restarting just about everything I can. Still no banana!
I can be online for just enough time to sort out the skill queue but no way I'm leaving station like this.

Getting Socket closed after 1-5 minutes tonight. Never really had that problem before... unless unpluged a cable somewhere. : )

Also requests to forums.eveonline.com and other services seem to time out regularly. Other destination seem to work fine. like teamspeak and radio streams. Some traces to ccp addresses below. PingPlotter doesnt show any icmp packet loss on the way.

edit:
did some more tracing, suspecting the uplink from DTAG.DE (which is my provider) to have the issue. These guys will get it fixed soon. Will check again tomorrow.

having same issue here, it's rather random, but it did occur twice during the mass test and happens on tranquility as well from time to time, however somewhat infrequent. Either way here's my ISP/location info with a traceroute, hope that helps. I did notice some of the international people having problems bounce through the USA at some point in their routes.....

I just started getting them as well. Just this last week. Before that I would get a disconnect only once per maybe 30 hours of game play time. But this last week once every hour or so. All socket closed errors.

Another point not sure if it makes any difference or not. But every single socket closed disconnect happens when I have a session change. ALWAYS during a session change. I never had a disconnect associated with anything else ever.
That makes me think it is something in the CCP server that causes it.

In fact let me go one step further and suggest it is because of the recent changes CCP made to local.
When ever I do a session change the computer has to load a new local. I think something CCP did to local is causing it to hang and or the socket closed error is mis diagnosing the problem.

Further I never had a disconnect when I undock. While that is a session change it does not involve loading a new local.
Only Session changes that involve a new local cause my socket closed errors.

Yes i experienced this error for 2 times today while adventuring in stunning Eve Universe & also Shift+Tab Interface action doesn't work at the moment in Steam while being in Eve Online,maybe should write about it to Steam's Support,but said it here now anyways :P 1st time it happend while i was in Cap's Quarters & 2nd time when was writing long msg & just before got to click send mail i got "lost connection to socket or was it just lost socket" window & there was 2x options at bottom of window: Restart and Quit.

I have never before had that window or any Dc problem while being in Eve Universe & i will try modem reset before coming to Eve Universe for the next time in tomorrow afternoon "after done important business in RL,blah i want to live in New Eden For real :P" & if that error comes again then will send Dxdiag file & screenshot from the error popup. Sad to see that so many ppl have the same problem & seems that it has been causing trouble espesially now in Inferno :/ Also good to know that Steam might not be the one that's causing it :) Would be nice to get this fixed for good though so could enjoy smoothly of being in beautiful Eve Universe.

Sadly, I have been fighting this the last 4 days. I get about 30 mins at best and then drop. No other things seem to have issues including downloads (with RT monitoring), even Steam/Origin/Amazon Services running or not running. Even had a BSoD that I still looking into. The traces and checks showed various hangups and nodes not responding at different times, both domestic US ISP's and International ISP's hubs seem to be having issues. But I am not seeing a real pattern to the nodes that drop packets. I have yet to have a trace repeat the drop on the same node.

Does this help/hinder anyone who might be looking into this? The instability makes it hard to do very much, as I can't be sure if my toon will drop in the middle of a bad place.

This has been happening to me since down time earlier. Now i'm at the point where i can't even log in. Just hangs at the authenticating screen. :(

Face the same Socket Closed Connection Lost problem. Usually happen when the server load began to increase around 13.30 and 15.30 Evetime. Used to be smooth connection before the patch but now totally unplayable around that time. And its my prime time too....(damn)!!!

wierdly enough, i forgot to log into my VPN and was able to stay on for hours without any socket closed errors. this is some kind of bug in the system for sure.

I too am having this issue. I only get enough time to log in, check skills, maybe do some PI, but I know I can't leave the station. It's become unplayable, and seems to have been since the most recent patch. I'm only a part time player so can't confirm exactly when this started. Taken a bit of time off for Dust 514 as well.

I wonder if it is connection related or system related. Some people have reported running multiple client, or multiple machines on the same connection and only one gets the error.

I'm actually at work at the moment, going to try and replicate other posts with tracert etc once I get home. Also attempt to use a different internet connection in the next couple of days to see if it makes a difference.

Edit: I just realised I'm going to miss my 8th birthday due to this bug, too.

I doubt it has anything to do with it being ISP's or the fact you guys are in the States. I'm currently in the UK, Scotland. and i got my first Socket closed today and now, it basically happens every 5-10 mins for me. cant complete a damn security mission. I currently have steam. but also used the normal Eve client as well. i get the issue on both steam and normal eve client.

I'm also getting socket disconnects and have never had them before this morning - I'm in the UK, England

I'm not using VPN or Steam and my other internet activity seems fine.

Initially I thought it was my network so switched everything off but after the socket disconnects returned I found this forum thread.

I'll wait until after the Monday update before trying again.
