Packet loss is gone as sudden as it came, must have been a shift change somewhere, to people that knew how to replace or correct equipment :)

I Spoke too soon, right after DT it's back with a vengeance....which only hints at an issue in CCPs network, or its interaction with connecting hardware.

Ive been having this problem recently too.
I spoke to someone on the eve help chatboard who said thats its to do with "packet loss from a wireless modem".

Could the problem be that Eve needs a hard line to fucntion properly?

I mentioned that people all over the globe were having the same problem and posted a link to this thread to them

tracert perfectly fine.

running log server you see that the remote host closed the socket.

Socket closed problem arose suddenly for me between 4PM EST and 6PM. I get other errors about being unable to connect to the content server, some graphics will not serve to the launcher (the three link buttons near the bottom), sometimes the graphics will not serve to the character select screen. I am on Verizon's residential broadband service in the mid atlantic. It is very slow to fetch the server stats (whether server is active and how many are logged into eve). Login from character select fails with socket closed dialog box.

Same problem with me. It was OK for few days... but for last few days it is crazy. I got disconnected 5 times in one hour. Followed by disconnect from two fleet member (2 times each)...

This problem is getting to a point where playing becomes annoying and tiresome.

This has gone long enough for CCP to repair this. If this does not stop I will end with EVE. So will a lot of my mates.

Great! Start PVP ... disconnect... your ship stays in space... go puff.

Go to mission, middle of fight disconnect ... warp back, run through four gate start fight... disconnect ... When you have to loot, most of wrecks inside fleet are not yours. Tractor beams cant lock... and so on.

And if me and all my mates have the same problem at the same time (from all over the world) .... then this has nothing to do with local internet, router, OS, hardware..etc problem.

Crazy. And starting to causes more problems than it's worth.

Also just started getting this error tonight. Never heard of it before. Worked fine all last night. Haven't changed any settings or updated the computer so.....the eff?

All I see is tons of complaints and no reliable work arounds....hope this fixes itself soon.

Everytime I try to play for more than 30 minutes I've been getting this on a consistent basis. The game's basically unplayable. It sometimes even crashes my router.

I thought it was a router issue but everyone's having similar problems... Bellsouth AT&T internet off the east coast.

I have been playing this game on a 3g/4g VZW access device for 2+ years now and i just started having this problem 4 days ago. GMs are being useless blaming my isp.

Im no internet expert or whatever, but when i can play every other game (including BF3 servers based in Europe and Iceland) it makes me suspect my internet is working just fine...

i just wanna know what happened 4 or 5 days ago that changed things. :I

Well nothing has gotten any better on my end. Still disconnects every 20min.....

I am running 3 accounts and it happens on all of them. All 3 come up for renewal in March. I am going to just let them expire. I have been playing this game for 6 years and it saddens me that CCP cant get this fixed!

But it is just not enjoyable to play anymore with the game in this state. I will just take a 6 month hiatus and maybe they can get it fixed by then.

I wish you all well! Perhaps I will see you all again around Christmas!

Lirp out!

I got a little further to the cause, this is what happens on my side:

My cable modem has a 1, maybe 2 second period of 100% packet loss (for pings anyway), after which the line is clear again for a long time. This small window of no communication seems enough for the client to see a true loss of connection and it just gives up or the server boots it for being out of sync! The constant, but small amounts of packet loss near CCP's end of the server do not seen to cause the instability in my case.

A CCP developer should look closely at the network layer and the communication protocol between client and server, especially the error handling on both sides!. It looks like the code panics far more often then is necessary!

CCP should also consider having a client side spool/log of the last minute or so of communication that once connection is re-established, this information is uploaded for analysis. Even if you close the client after a disconnect and start again later, sending this information can greatly help to improve connection stability. If something similar is done on the server side for clients who's socket is closed, they got a full communication sequence to analyze!

The beauty of this approach is that all clients from all over the world help to monitor and debug the connection layer!

Experiment:

1. Start EVE through the launcher, log in, pick your character, enter the game and stay in the game for few minutes and then log out and exit the client.

2. Keep your Internet connection going and browse, download or play other online games while observing the health of your network.

Report your findings after 1 week of experiments.

EDIT 1: Point being, just out of curiosity, to see if the client has any "hidden features" running in the background that might cause the connection to die. After months of poking about I have managed to pinpoint my troubles to my modem which unfortunately has gotten senile (like I have) after years of rooting packages.

Been running EVE for about 8 hours a day over the past few months without problems, then today I get a disconnect once every 5 minutes.

Rebooted my router (though that is barely a year old), waiting to see if it has fixed the problem.

I doubt its a problem with my internet connection which I know to be stable.

EDIT: Resetting router DID NOT work.

Really hope CCP comes up with a solution for this.

I seem to have DC issues as of lately as well again. Seems like same issue some 1-1,5 years ago. Happens mostly when accessing Agent finder, or flying on AP.
Small sidenote. I only disconnect/freeze on one client. Didn't happen that several clients froze at same time. Happens on both laptop and desktop, bot wireless and wired.

Cable internet, Ubee modem, Sitecom router, Provider ziggo (Netherlands)

Anything discovered/solved on CCP side?

Dunno if this is a permanent solution or whether it'll work for anyone else.

In desperation I completely uninstalled EVE and did a fresh, clean install which seems to have done the trick.

Managed to run EVE for 6 hours without a problem.

Last 2 days I did not have any disconnects. So it may just be that. Maybe CCP did something or it is just luck.

Maybe.

I was getting disconnected like every 5 minutes until I reinstalled, after reinstalling I managed to stay logged in for at least 6 hours.
