Removing Local is Essential to the Long Term Survival of EVE

As an FC, I can tell you that local is an invaluable intel tool. Let's look at the reasons why, as an FC, I should love local.

  • Scouting is easy - A 'scout' becomes some dude who is in an interceptor/frigate and may or may not carry tackle. All they have to do is tell me how many people are in local, and how many are on the gate (and in what).
  • Running is easy - Local spike? Order the fleet to scatter and start moving between safes. But surely they can bait us with a drake or a loki or something right? Well, sure. But we're still going to warp away if we see a local spike and leave the one or two people that get tackled to die.
  • Gate camping is easy - Scout on the other side of a hi sec gate, blob on the lo sec side. You'll get lots of nice kills. Local militia or other pvp group coming to get you? See 'running is easy'.
  • Structure bashing is easy - While we're shooting a POS/POCO all we need to do is watch for a local spike or a cyno. Last weekend we took down two large caldari towers and two POCOs WHILE SEMI AFK. Literally, have the guy watching local in the fleet command role so he can warp the entire fleet to a safe at the first sign of trouble.

This, quite frankly, is unacceptable. EVE is not easy. Easy things must die and be replaced with colder harsher things.

Remove local.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Um no. Eve will survive better with local than without it.

Didn't bother reading your topic after the silly topic name. You lost a big chance in EVE at a faction or capital kill so move to wormholes if the big bad local is too much for you.

Yes. Removing local is vital to eve's long term survival. That is why its been going for 9 years with local without many issues. Clear sign this feature is killing the game.

I too enjoy posting comments on things I haven't even read yet.

You're dealing with the master of obfuscation here. This isn't the post you were looking for. Move along.

Greetings

You do realize that if local went away, which I am not necessarily against, 100% of the forum posts afterwards would be from hulk miners and carebears screaming bloody murder to bring back local. Personally I say let them have it as I am not sure I can handle any more crying on the forums.

Wormholes hint of an indication of what Devs wanted local to be but I honestly doubt 0.0 dwellers would tolerate an increase in difficulty when everyone has relied on local & intel channels for years.

I mean seriously, look at complaints about "AFK" cloakers its just a completely different way of thinking & playstyle than wormholes but maybe thats a good thing, I mean we dont want all areas of eve to be the same right?

I frequently tell alliance mates that if they're AFK they can't hurt you.

Keep local, because clicking dscan a lots and lots of times every few seconds isn't good for mental health.

You don't have to keep hitting DScan.

I can agree with this, its nice to see blobs coming in as a early warning. Keep local and move to wormhole if you dont like it.
