Still "Bulk Data" to download, after new launcher?

I had high hopes for the EVE Launcher, in terms of a much speeder log-in procedure, but whenever I try to log in, I still get the "bulk data" progress bar for about 20-30 seconds.

Can't the Launcher synch bulk data every 20 minutes or so, whenever it is running? That's be super nice!

In the top right corner of the launcher header is 3 different little icons - Close - Minimize - Configure. Click the left icon (Configure) which will open a window with various tabs, one of those tabs will have option available to only show the launcher when new patch info is available for download.

He is talking about the data after you login correct? I believe that is data that would be important to the UI experience since you last logged in, but either way you will always have to download a little something between logins.

Sure, but why can't this amount be reduced significantly?

The Launcher ought to be able to "learn" which accounts I tend to log in with (3), and which characters on those accounts I tend to log in with (1 from each). It ought to be possible to synch most of this "bulk data" periodically, when the launcher is running.

Why isn't CCP doing this?

According to Murphy's law this means it will sync every time you get red-boxed.

I assume the launcher only changes game files. The Bulk Data is ingame data that is much more dynamic and considering the players the duel box it, having an outside app (outside the evefile.exe) messing with files while you are playing would be a huge clustermess. Better to keep what it has to do inside the client and get yourself some faster interwebs if your having trouble. My 1.5mbit has no problem taking like 5-10sec to get it after the first try so I would hope yours isn't really that much worse.

I'm on 10 mbit/s. But it still feels like a long time, although not as long as before the Launcher, oddly.

I would have thought bulk data was not related to a patch.
I thought bulk data is world/universe specific dynamic data where a patch or update is for game client code and data.

apples and oranges

It was certainly never my assumption that bulk data was patch related, and it has always seemed likely to me that bulk data is about world information. But that doesn't exclude the possibility of the lancher synchronizing with the server a few times per hour, to speed up the logging in process.
