I am surprised that I am the only non-IT person that seems to play this game.

Can someone explain in easy terms how to get the game to work, without having to look at logs and paste-bins and adding commands when you start things, or opening router settings and disabling firewalls (all of which I cant do due to lack of technical skills)?

I am used to double clicking an icon and computer programs work, not having to have an IT background to figure out how to do it.

My original post with my problem is here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=943913#post943913

EDIT TO ADD:
I will try the solution on this thread when I get home from the office, perhaps that is the problem ... https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80389&find=unread

What exactly is broken with it? Does it not start downloading at all / broken link, or does it start but goes incomplete / corrupted data?

On a similar note, whenever we experience download corruption issues like these, its extremely helpful if you can let us know what ISP you are using, your rough geographical location (Such as Reykjavik, Manchester or Berlin, just the nearest major city), as well as, if possible, your IP address and time of when you tried to access the content.

If you are uncomfortable posting this information on the forums, please file a petition with the information to the Technical queue. If you do, please mention in the ticket that the information is for myself, and the GM's will ensure that I get notified about it as soon as they see it..

Hi all,

Please note that getting the corruption error like these:

Exception in thread Thread-2:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "threading.pyc", line 530, in __bootstrap_inner
File "threading.pyc", line 483, in run
File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 117, in DownloadPart

File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 136, in _DownloadPart
File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 522, in callback
TypeError: Error while decompressing: 1

And the issue earlier mentioned in this thread which prevents a person from even accesseing the file network (this file: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe) or downloading the full installer to the game are two completely different issues.

Basically, if you have problems accessing this file: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe then it will not matter if you have the launcher or the old manual patches, because you are having problems downloading from the CDN which is where we store the files.

Simply edit the common.ini file in your eve directory to an earlier version number.

For example:

[main]
version=7.22Alter this number!
build=344784Alter this number!
codename=EVE-EVE-TRANQUILITY
region=ccp
cryptoPack=CryptoAPI
sync=344784Alter this number!
branch=//depot/games/branches/release/EVE-TRANQUILITY/eve
appname=EVE
useScriptIndexFiles=1
socketIO=iocp

This forces the launcher to update to the latest version of the client.

I'll try and contribute a bit to the attempt of resolving the issue of the launcher getting stuck at 15%. Here's all the information I can think of:

1. I restart my computer to make sure nothing is running in the background.
2. I download the latest repair tool (345) and copy it into my eve folder.
3. I run the repair tool with the following results:

(1/7) Downloading index: Initializing ...
(1/7) Downloading index: 100.0%, 17.94 KB/17.94 KB, 3.58 KB/s, 00m00s

(3/7) Downloading recipes: 100.0%, 6.63 KB/6.63 KB, 1.32 KB/s, 00m00s

The corresponding log says:

4. I start my EvE Online launcher, watch it go to 25%, then restart at 0, and loop until they cows come home.

Some specs:

- W7 professional 64bit
- AV software is ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 (NOT INTERNET SECURITY!!)
- No software firewall or Internet Security utility
- I am located in Western Germany, close to Frankfurt
- My ISP is the Deutsche Telekom
- My Router is a Speedport W 503V

I checked out the Router as well. No firmware updates are available, and the logs show no special events. Filtering is disabled, and there are no other options related to that issue available.

I have also tried to completely disable the AV software before trying any of this - with the same result.

CCP Cascade: Could you not just link us the latest patch file, so we could manually inject it into the launcher? The option is there, all we need is the file. It might not fix the issue altogether, but it'd at least buy you guys some time to figure out a proper solution, and it'd definitely be appreciated by all the players whose skill training queue has run dry ...

hi, I ran the repair tool it told me some blacks were missing but restored all, the launcher starts, then press play I get game splash screen, that goes away and gives me back the launcher but no game running.
in task manager I see cmd.exe and conhost.exe

I have even reinstalled the game without any change and this is starting to **** me off.
when is this going to be resolved?
the game worked fine before the launcher came and the patch was there

I am at work so cannot currently try repairing my router firmware/settings. But IMO this is not what needs to happen.

The launcher is not needed. The last crucible patch worked just fine, the game ran fine, everything was kosher all your customers were happy.

somebody decided that a launcher was needed. why? None of your players seem to need a launcher as the game was running just fine.

Get rid of the launcher, go back to the way it worked before because... well IT WORKED!

As somebody else mentioned in this thread: "what if I do not have any IT skills" There are many players out there who have no technical skills and they just want to click and play like they would any other game out there on the market.

Roll back the launcher.

Go back to the original patch method and everyone will be back in game pewing each others pixels to death.

There is no shame in rolling back the launcher. I for one would be willing to run test on a beta launcher separately whenever you want me to until your software works. In the meantime we just want to play the game.

If you run the repair tool, what happens? If the game doesn't start after you click play it is most likely because the client doesn't have all the files it needs to start.

Do you get an error message?

I had the same problem with the launcher getting to 15 or 25% and restarting. My problem is described here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=943913#post943913

Here is what I did ...

I follwed this advice:

Accipitradea wrote:
Femaref wrote:
Accipitradea: make your ssh tunnel listen on localhost:26000, pipe it forward on an open port, and the other side on your server pipes it back to eve-server:26000.

I'm not using an ssh tunnel; just changing the local outbound port to circumvent the firewall and changing it back on my own firewall elsewhere. Thanks for the advice, but my set up simpler because I'm not tunneling, just PATing.

Samantha Utama wrote:
ok, quick/temporary fix if you are unable to log in at all, so that you can tend to your empty skill queues:

I managed to get it working by creating the shortcut to the ExeFile.exe found in /bin folder with the /server:127.0.0.1 parameter.

Be warned tho, this resets all your settings to default, but I didn't mind that much. Also there's a console window like some sort of logServer.

This seems to bypass the Launcherâ„¢ completely so you'll have to update your client via the launcher first.

Hope CCP doesn't disable this now :V

Ah ha! This is what I needed, because this allows me to bypass the launcher entirely. You make a good point that your settings will get reset, but if this matters, you can copy the /user/AppData/Local/CCP/EVE/c_programfiles_(x86)_ccp_eve_Tranquility files into the new user/AppData/Local/CCP/EVE/c_programfiles_(x86)_ccp_eve_127.0.0.1 directory that will be created after your first attempt to log on. That's where I had to go back and set the prefs.ini file port value.

Now I can connect without using the god-forsaken Launcher at all, just like I could last week. Though I'll probably have to use it to patch, then quit, then use my direct launch.

That allowed me to get into the game, well the login screen, but not to actually log in (because the newest patch was not installed).

I then exited the game and went back in using the launcher again, and this time the patch downloaded and installed properly! I can now play the game!

Maybe it perhaps has something to do with it resetting all your settings to default?

Hey guys,

Seems everyone has an issue with this launcher, but no one says anything about something i've experience and prevents me from runing eve client.

when i try to launch the game from desktop shortcut, i get a pop-up message *Unsupported 16-Bit Application* (as title) with the following message

"The program or feature "\??\D:\Games\EvE\launcher\launcher.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to as if a 64-bit windows compatible version is available"

what's the catch?

Hi CCP Dev,

I sat with the same launcher loop last night. Launcher starts updating up to 25% and then start over and over etc.

The solution was. I downloaded the patch manually and used you Launcher`s import function to manually import the update. After that everything worked perfectly.

You released a new patch and I am back to the Launcher/update loop. Can you guys give me a link to the patch so I can download and manually import it please. This should solve the problem.

Just an suggestion. While you guys are still sorting out some of the bugs, which is understandable, give us the option to import manually.

Thanks in advance
