Where is your short cut located.
I have never had this problem.
If I create a new short cut that is what happens though.

I tried updating the client hat worked last week, got the new launcher. It started downloading and tried to patch before throwing an exception.

I then copied a new fresh version of my main eve folder and tried again.

Same result, exception thrown after patch download.

The data shown:

Exception during UpdaterModule.Update
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "lib\update.pyc", line 522, in Update
File "lib\update.pyc", line 568, in _Update
File "lib\update.pyc", line 295, in __init__
File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 1280, in __init__
UnpicklingError: invalid load key, 'Ÿ'.

Now doing a fresh install from sisi downloader, any thoughts on the above?

I'm getting a similar error, many of the same files. Same problem with the frames bringing a forum HTML error, too. I've tried downloading with the SiSi launcher and copying the Tranquility files and letting it autopatch to Singularity's build, neither worked. Disclamer: I have never been on Singularity before so I don't really know what I'm doing. My error message starts with:

With Win7-64 bit I use a task bar link for sisi launcher and a desk top link to the new laucher for my testing.
It looks like Win XP does not like the format of the settings that the new laucher uses and is deleting them. Try one of the two other locations to see if that helps CCP locate the issue. I started a client version from the drop down to see if it will reset for me as well.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I think I tried both but they look similar so I can't be sure.

when this happens I check if there are any extra eve.exe running and then delete all the files in folders at the top of my eve folders so that any settings that are auto generated get reset.

There was a problem with the Launcher such that when it updated itself, it would start with the MS-DOS style short path name. This would mean that if your game was installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE the game would boot with C:\PROGRA~2\CCP\EVE instead, thereby creating a new settings/cache folder. Closing the Launcher and restarting it would fix the issue for the next run, however.

There are an error with setting/cache folder:
launcher use g_games_eve-test_87.237.38.50 but direct shortcut with "eve.exe /server:Singularity" use g_games_eve-test_singularity folder.

And launcher still ask admin login when patching. But other looks ok.

Win7 will be cheked later

As the launcher soft ware changes stuff like usability needs to be looked at.
The file in the main eve directory to install the new launcher needs to be diffrent then the name in the launcher file it creates.

ie.

The launcher.exe in the main eve folder needs to be named launcher-installer. Its currently setup to run a install program each time. Which adds to the delay of start up if you only see that file to create a short cut and use it to run the launcher.

The launcher.exe in the laucher folder, when used to creat a short cut, launches the launcher without installing the laucher again. It will be interesting when the next patch comes out what changes are made and if the structure of the files changes again and how it installs a new version of itself.

I am very pleased we are getting a launcher for EvE-Online it's a huge gap that is being filled.

My only suggestion's are while a patch is updating we have the option to pause the update manually so that we can close the launcher and resume at a later time if needed.

I dont know if the launcher at the moment will save current download progress if say the PC crashes or is closed as i dont really want to test that right in the middle of a large download :p

Just as a reminder, please take a look at Macintosh issues regarding the Launcher. Have any Macintosh users been able to get onto Singularity without Boot Camp or emulation since the March 1 patch?

Looks ok, but seriously if you take a big sh*t on multiboxing i will quit playing this game, im already using junctions for multiple window sizes and settings and its a pain as it is updating all those clients already, so you have great potential for making this launcher a good multibox "manager" so please dont f*ck it up.

PS. Fix the damn overview.

One concern i have with the current patching system:
When it downloaded the ingame part and closes the client for the patch, it seems to change the updater binary. This causes my antivirus/firewall to ask for a new permission to access the internet for the updater, which results in a timout for the downloading of the payload data (payload can not be found). This step doesnt seem to have a retry function, so i have to abort the whole patching process and run the repair tool (which may or may not take longer than just applying the patch).

It would be great if the new patcher would retry constantly at every step that may be interrupted by a antivirus/firewall to avoid the nessecity to repair the client. If that is already in the package, count this issue as void Smile

It is hard to test that case on sisi, as it doesnt happen all the time and i dont have a large number of unpatched clients to try it out, i also dont know when the patcher binaries are changed (the case where the antivir/firewall interrupts the download) and when they stay the same. So this is a case only you can check. Try using a antivir/firewall on paranoid mode, that always tries to ask for permission when it is possible.

First : I never use launchers, because i found these absolutely useless and wasting time.

Second : when you have a crash, the goal is to get back in Eve as fast as possible

Third : go try StarTrek Online and tell me about their launcher. oh yes, it looks like eve's one with a text wall unreadable and a big "Engage" (Or launch, same). Checking for update every time in case of. but, in STO, you can't die really nor loose stuff.
For a Sci-Fi game with a "Greece Market Extension" it's not really smart the way it's done.

don't force ppl to start eve via a launcher. Plus if you're "unsupported and EvilEvilEvil" multi boxing, eve launcher will start on screen 1, so behind the first launched instance by example. and there we go with Alt-Tabbing, hope you don't have more than 1Gb of ram and only Eve running.

Again i'm really against.
Ok you could use the launcher when there is a patch like Chuck Norris's Game. (not wise to say the name here)
Why Eve can't launch its own launcher for updating ? Meh...

And no, i'm not multiboxing STO nor SWTOR. ;)

PS : But no i ain't any bug yet. but arrrghhh, a launcher !

The only time it runs that launcher installer is when an update is needed for the Launcher itself. I was actually going over the text in the updater on Friday to get them all translated. I'd love to hear your opinions on what you think needs changing elsewhere in the UI though.

As Sisi is down for patching ill just wait until its back up again to give any more feed back Twisted

The second thing I am going to do after I up date the build using the in folder exe short cut, is to use my other main sisi folder short cut to see if it still has the same fuctionality. Twisted

New build only updatable using sisi launcher.
Short cuts did not update launcher and did not start sisi update until launched and canceled the sisi launcher update.
Same version of the launcher.

For some reason the launcher keeps coming up Tranquility for me.

Needless to say it won't actually start at that point.
