Instead of a Door, How about a Window?

Every station is filled with lights, which are presumably windows. What if instead of a door you can't open we had a window, where you could look out and see spaceships. You could see the person who was camping you in station, or watch a massive fleet battle. A merging of WIS and FIS.

As far as how this wpuld work technically, I don't know thats what developers are for.

But CCP seems interested in things that look cool, and I think this would also have a big effect on game play, as far as knowing whether or not it was safe to undock.

A window seems to easy to hide or cheat. Besides, from how I see it your CQ does not seem to close to a place where a window would even be viable.

Wouldn't it be easier to just toggle a TV channel that works like the Jita Live cam, or perhaps have an option where you can toggle a view from the stations view point, and move your camera around there.

Although personally I think its a dumb idea to be able to know if somebody is waiting for you, isn't that just giving the honest hard working pirates and campers a harder job?

Can my space ship come along side the station so I can peep into the windows? Lets face it there are alot of avatars that some of you pervs would like to see naked.

From what I've read they have been working hard on something to replace the door for awhile.
Instead of saying replace the door.. maybe just ask for a way to see what's outside?

Iirc at one stage I saw some questions about seeing outside, in some of the fanfest videos.
So they have thought about it before. Maybe just show a list of what ship names that are sitting on grid outside?

Solid brick wall takes less resources and is easier to develop.

Last I heard, it was pretty much out of the question for the time being since it required the game to accept that people could either be in multiple locations or that multiple people could occupy the same entity at once… and neither is possible with the current sim.

I thought all you'd need is something sitting outside with all the filters set to just the player ships. and add all the ships together and put it in a neat list and show that one list to everyone in station?

Obviously a bit more to it than that.

Instead of windows, how about you grow some balls and undock?

Jesus christ, if you're THAT scared of losing a ship, or can't conceive a simple method of getting by the baddies, perhaps you should be playing a different game.

I think that the most feasible way that this can be done is to have the game count the number of players in system and have a "window" give an indication of activity. If you are in a system with a lot of players then you will see a lot of ships, and if you are in a system with few players then you will see few ships.

It wont give a perfect view on how it looks outside your window, but it might give a sense of activity in the system you are in.

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

A window would be extremely good, maybe not inside the captains quarters, but in the open areas, seeing ships undock would be pretty neat. But, seeing the planet and/or moon the station is anchored/orbiting would be freaking awesome.

Even US astronauts, in the Stone Age of Space Travel insisted on a fricken window in the Apollo modules. Who in their lazy minds would design a space station without the ability to LOOK OUT. Not to mention the strategic gaffe, how bout just being able to admire the stars and reduce that claustrophobic living in a can feeling.

In a galaxy plagued by war, where 90% of the ships have guns the size of houses strapped to them, i'd rather be encased real deep inside an armor hull, absolutely nowhere near a window.

Why don't we have a remote in the CQ. You want to really attract the couch potato crowd.the ability to switch channels, check outside views from the comfort of your couch would seal the deal with thousands of casual players.
