I ran across this quote and thought it has great application here and other places but I'm having trouble applying it so I thought I'd share it and ask here for the good of the game and whatnot.

Quote:
If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.

...beat a man with a fish and your friends will laugh all day. Set up market scams and steal every one else's fish and then you will have a lot of fish to give to people that look like the type to beat other people with fish and you will laugh for a life time.

Give a man a fire, and he will be warm for the night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Ships aren't as big as the sea. Should teach them to be immense as a large hole or puddle.

Spoken like a poet and not a ship builder.

Also, if man was meant to fly, he wouldn't have crashed his plane in the desert. Twice.

Edit: Also I will not take lessons on naval construction from a Frenchman. Most of their fleet is on the bottom of the sea, right next to the Spanish navy.

Make a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (has a more 'Eve' tone to it)

The idea behind that quote is fairly simple: instead of paying people to work for you, manipulate them and make them think they want to do it, even when they really dont. They'll do it more efficiently and for less money. perfect!

Example: you want someone dead but dont have the money to hire an assassin. Make your neighbour think the guy is banging his wife. problem solved.

I 'think' it means: Give a man a purpose rather than simply telling him what to do.

Considering the rather prescriptive nature of certain elitist views in EvE I'd say its very relevant. Blink

However when it comes down to some of the random play in EvE I think it is a nice statement to apply to people so they can at least begin to question what their real role in EvE is and wether they have any "real" purpose.

Fortunatley with a "sandbox" its open ended hopefully in defining that for yourself.

- If they comprehend the beauty of the sea, each of them will build a ship for him self, and will shear their knowledge with others.
- In other words: more good references for the game, more players will join.

Teachings of the not so smart ones.

Don't eat, do not chew on meat, do not hunt, do no grow crops.

Rather fulfill your body with nutrient energy. Seek saturation. Hope for satiety.

Stupids, as in middleages talky smalt things. Talky Talky

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

Happens not! Bulding a ship is a costly enterprise. No ship, no sea experience! No seamanship.

Can't overskip to the result, without taking the pass!

Utopia, Communism, both aim to something good, without taking any positive steps. Bull droppings is the result of illusive dreaming. You step in it.

I think what that quote is saying don't just give people tasks that require no real thinking or ownership of the task but instead install enthusiasm into the trainee/worker so they will take more pride in their work.

But building a ship requires team organisation so enthusiasm without the organisation just would not work.

Personally, I just think it's a crap quote.

But of course it could just mean don't teach parrot fashion but teach in a way that makes it interesting to the trainee.
