Ok as i have been reading round eve , each wreck has a base chance for salvage , small wrecks are at 30% so ....the question am asking is......

If am using salvager 1`s and a salvage skill of 3 , does this mean , that i wont be able to salvage ? or does it mean i that i have a lower base/chance to infact get a salvage item.

Cos i read that its 5% per Level so at Level 3 that would mean i would only have 15% not the 30% thats its said.Shocked

And do all wreaks have salvage or do some just have none.

Thanks for the answers.Big smile

Based purely on the information in your post, I would say that you have a 45% salvage rate. Base rate implies that it can be increased, and your skill adds 15%.

salvage is determined at wreck creation time
some wrecks will not be salvageable with level 3 and salvager 1
[get to level 4 for most]

Only some wrecks have salvage not all of them. The salvage skill just determines your chance of retrieving that salvage per cycle of the salvager it does not affect if the wreck has salvage or not. I salvage ok with my salvage skill at only level two using my salvager 1's although it will take me a little longer than somone with it at lvl 4/5.

Edit: Note as RaTTuS BIG states there are a few wrecks that will require salvage lvl4 in order to be able to salvage them.

it means as you said, that you can salvage anything, and your chance to succesfully salvage a wreck increases with your skill increase.
A tip would be to make a dedicated salvaging ship with salvage tackle rigs on it to further increase your chances of succesfully salvaging the wreck.

Hope that helped.

At the risk of splitting hairs the higher skill reduces the chance of failure rather than increasing the chance of getting something.

Not sure if it's changed since I did the "research" but that's how the percentages work from memory.

PS: I went and checked and found this "Each level of this skill increases the chance of successful salvage by 5%, so the higher the skill level the better."

I'm wrong it seems but positive it was worded different when I learned about salvaging some years back.

PPS: The I found this. "Access Difficulty Bonus 5 %"

Which implies I was right.

Have I cleared that up?

Mostly correct, appart from "you can salvage anything". There is some salvage that NEEDS Salvage IV skill before you can salvage it.

EDIT: I figured I would add some more to explain this all clearly.

The amount of salvage is deviced by the game when a wreck is created.
Your salvage skill determins if you get the wreck's salvage on the current cycle.
So higher skill = better chance of getting it each cycle.
Which usually means with a higher skill, you will take less cycles to get the salvage.

If you successfuly salvage, you get all the salvage that wreck has. (salvage skill has no bearing on how much salvage a wreck has)

Some wrecks/salvage need level 4 skill to work. (I believe this is for T2 ships and some sleepers ships)

I have the impression that some wrecks have penalties applied when you try to salvage them.

So, for sleeper BS wrecks for example, you got to have high enough skill so that your base+skill bonus exceeds the wreck's penalty. That said, with Salvage 4 i have successfully salvaged anything so far (i've never been in C4-5-6 WHs though).

Like any skill in Eve, the minimum you should have the skill at to be useful is 4. With that and a properly rigged ship, you should be able to salvage any wreck at all, even the difficult Sleeper BS wrecks.

Although if you salvage regularly as a source of income, there's really no excuse for not training Salvaging to 5. Once you get into a salvager II-fitted Noctis with salvage tackle rigs and ORE Industrial 4, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

People were constantly telling me I was crazy. For a long time I didn't believe them, but after a while, I started to think they might be right.

But it turns out that they were all wrong. One of the voices in my head is a psychiatrist and he says I'm perfectly sane.

It wasn't too long ago when my salvage boat of choice was a Catalyst. It worked well and made me tons of isk.

But nowadays with the Noctis. the 68km range I get from tractors plus the speed bonuses on both salvagers and tractors makes salvaging so efficient it's not even a task anymore. This is as good as it gets. I don't see myself ever training ORE Industrial to 5 though. I rarely can't reach a wreck with my current tractor range. And if I do, it's nothing a single pulse of the MWD can't put me in range of. so an extra 12km range and slight speed increases aren't worth the weeks of training.

But yeah, get salvaging 5 and ORE Industrial 4. There's really no excuse to not have those 2 skills if you're salvaging regularly. They really are worth it.

2 factors;

1. Can the wreck be salvaged with your skill level? You need level 4 for certain things including sleeper battleships.

2. Everything else is relative to the chance of salvaging "each cycle".

For the record, t2 salvagers are the only way to go. The difference is astronomical.
