Splash Damage skill

Is there a place for splash damage weapons, other than bombs and smart bombs in eve.

Should there be a skill book that extends a portion of damage out say 2km per level and 10% damage per level for several types of weapon groups, say the longer range of all the missile groups, heavies, cruise, and the artillery, rails, and what ever the long range laser is.

This would help combat the blob as grouping together will not incur a lot of collateral damage.

I actually quite like the idea. Although I think it would do more to help blobs then discourage them.

However, I think the server load on this would be more than any hamster can bare.

I love the idea of AOE weapons in EVE. They give you the ability to exploit your enemy's formations. Any new toy is a good thing in my book. Bombs and Smartbombs should definitely be expanded upon, and possibly more weapons added.

(IE Lightning guns that branch from their initial target to other nearby ships, etc.)

1000 splash damage per BS over a 10km range? So...256,000 splash for a full fleet of maels?

That's one hell of an alphafleet buff. And to think, the counter would be to...um...

use a wider orbit on the anchor point.

Large scale AOE usually means dead hamsters.

There is a reason they removed the AOE Doomsday.

Missiles already have a somewhat similar mechanic, although used for a different type of thing, called an Explosion Radius.
It COULD be used as a "splash" or "aoe" mechanic, but the main issue i see is this...

Does it hit things that are not hostile;
Yes? Thank you for killing off ALL highsec missile boats.
No? Useless, as not everything in a fleet etc is going to be hostile

Perhaps a new Ammo type instead? but lets not make ammo even more complicated than it already is!

I don't think CONCORD would appreciate "splash damage" in high-sec.

edit: Nor in low-sec.

That's a good point. The spash damage would wipe out missiles in flight too. And drones.

Comgrats OP! You worked out how to remove anything smaller than a BS, along with any missile or drone ship from PVP and some PVE entirely!
