Ok, soo there are probably a lot of people that won't agree with this because they have a thought stuck in their head that CCP is focusing all their man power into bettering Eve, but at a very slow pace.

However, my suggestion doesn't so much fall on CCP as it does the players.

So, once a week CCP host a vote where they pick one specific ship for that week (raven in this case) and the players of Eve can vote on whether they would like to see that ship modelled with a new skin.
If the players vote yes, then for the next 6 months it unlocks a player competition in which the players themselves create new skins. this is basically the exact same as what CCP did with the new tier 3 battlecruisers, which of course wouldn't need to be voted on because they're pretty new and don't need to be changed. As well, strategic cruisers are also something that doesn't need to be reskinned, because they're probably pretty difficult to do so with.

So, the players wouldn't have to allocate stats or slot layout because all this would stay the same. They just simply have to create a new skin that would fit the needed functionality of the ship. I.E. a turret boat would need a specific design to where turrets could be mounted in specific possitions in order to properly engage a target no matter where it sits. It can't be shooting through itself.

Then, CCP breezes through the designs and picks out the ones that fit the bill closest, and then the players can vote on which one they feel is the best.

This way, the only thing that CCP has to do is pick a ship, start a vote, if it's a yes to change, then start up cheap link for the competition, once submission period is over, pick the ones that fit the bill, let the player vote. The only complicated part that CCP has to do is to implement the skin into the game and add the effects on it, which I'd imagine wouldn't be too difficult considering the turret and thruster locations are already established in the designs by the players.

As a reward for winning, you get a PLEX. That's it.. A single PLEX, but in this case it's not about the PLEX. Tons of people just enjoy designing things like this, and would probably also enjoy new skins on old ships.

I mean honestly...There are some great looking ships in the game like the Rokh or Megathron, but there are other ships in game that I'm just tired a looking at them. For instance, I stated the raven. Even knowing that the ship that comes out is the same ship, just the fact that it looks different would add a little spice to the game.
Plus, based off the Tornado, the Players can come up with some pretty good looking ships, and this would not only be enjoyable to see the competitive designs coming out, but would be great to see some of those fugly eye sore ships that are all over everywhere because everyone has one, or at one point had one, being reskinned.
I'm not saying once the vote is final I wanna see that ship in game, just, vote to reskin the ship, 6 months, vote on the replacement skin, then CCP has however long they think they would need to implement that skin.(i'd think 6 months more would be enough.)

Overall though, it would not only be fun, but it would spice up what we see everyday in Eve for however long each of us has been playing.

Yeah, there are some crappy looking ships in Eve i'd like to see reskinned. I'd agree that the raven is one of them...That ship is not only ugly, but it's everywhere, and it's navy and t2 as well.

Yes, there are ugly ships in Eve, but this isn't the answer to it.

First off, most ships aren't ugly to everyone, just many people. Even if you don't like the current model, that other guy will get REALLY pissed because his favorite ship in the entire game is suddenly changed for no real reason at all.

Second, by making it a contest with rewards, you create a lot of "I can't model worth crap, but I want a PLEX, so I'm going to submit this". That would create lots of crappy entries. Most good modelers do it because they enjoy it. If this was implemented, there should be no reward (beyond, possibly, the artist's name somewhere attached to the design somehow, possibly in the info screen).

Third, it adds lots of overhead to the game designers. Even if players are doing the bulk of the design and work for the models, the models still have to be cleaned up and turned into a format that can be used in-game.

I have a feeling this would be a lot of extra overhead for the game designers for little benefit (and possibly detriment, if you go messing around with someone's favorite ship).

I'll admit, there are a lot of ships that I don't like the looks of in-game too, but I'm also willing to concede that some people do like them and that it would be rude to consider my opinion of the model the only one that matters.

True, but again, that's why I stated a vote on it.. If the majority of the population likes the current ships skin, then they would vote for it to stay.

Now, when it comes to rewards, I'll agree that the only reward that should be given is the designers name attached to the ship somehow.

Now, as far as it tieing up a bunch of overhead. I don't really think it would hurt too bad. Again, all that stats and everything would be the same, and the players would have shown the design layout of the turrets and propultion and so on. So, while CCP would still have to implement it into the game and throw in the graphics, most of the work would already be done.

When you get down to it though, it's not a matter so much of "that ship is ugly" it's more a matter of refreshment for the player base. There are tons of players wanting CCP to add all new ships to the game, and while some of this spawns from the wanting of new ships with new abilities, a lot of it actually comes from the players just wanting to see something different show up on their screen. You can give them that same feel and excitement with much less costs just by reskinning some of the existing ships. So I'd be willing to bet that it would be a much more cost effective investment to keep the player base interested than completely designing new ships from the ground up.

I mean, sure, the new bc's are nice, but were they really needed? Imo, they're like every ship idea you see posted in the forums in that, it's a nice idea, but where's the niche and/or purpose to actually implement them?

They could ask for suggestions for which ships to give a makeover and then put forward a few options for each expansion to be voted on, then it's not such a massive overhead. That way the most unpopular designs could be looked at every 6 months, doing it weekly would make it quite a headache for the devs but as part of each expansion it might be managable.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Only a vote would be held weekly, but yea, my initial statement was that not all ships need a make over, but their are a few that a lot of players would like to see made over.

Umm please no. Just to go with your's example, I like Raven a lot. And I like new Golem even more. Another example I dont like Gila but i know a lot of people who likes it (and I still cant understand that). I also really like the "new" Maller model but I also sometimes miss the old Maller. For god's sake there was even one player that wanted old turrets back. Soo all this is highly individual.

Your's system of voting would be abused to hell by large aliances. Same way like any voting would be/is (you know ... CSM).

CCP is curently working on new models and textures for newbie, amarr and minmatar ships. After that they want to remodel other things (capitals, stations, gates etc). As I see it they have wery long plan of things to remodel. We will see ship skins selling in NeX store and corp/aliance logos on ships "soon".

It was also stated in one of the recent dev blogs (one about the new newbie ships) that it takes very long time to design, model and texture new ship and I really dont want anything that would distract the graphic department from finishing new amarr and minmatar ships. Because lets face it it is not fair to have only galente and caldari ships remodeled. Also I cant wait for new missiles animations. Yours idea may be good AFTER CCP finishes all that (2 years?) but please not now.

CCP really please dont use Upgraded, Limited, Experimental and Prototype in item names. It sounds like the item is actually worse than basic meta 1 item. Use Calibrated, Enhanced, Optimized and Upgraded. Its really easy to understand that the item is better than meta 1 and its also in alphabetic order.

When the hell are we gonna get new missile animations anyway?
