Implications of forum "likes" and perceptions of those with lots of them

I normally push the like buttan when I see a post that pretty much sums up my thoughts on whatever the topic at hand is, and prevents me from having to correct someone that was wrong on the internet. I do post alot though, and albeit sometimes wrong stuff just to rile people up.

217 of my likes came from Destination Skillque

Likes is just CCP doing it's job of making us happy and help us feel good about playing their game. Your thinking too much about something that is just to encourage you to spend more money on EVE.

I just gave you your 500th "like". Also, like counts are useless, but it is nice to know when someone legitimately likes a post. I'd like to see "like" implemented exactly the way it is, but only displayed to the person who is being liked. Which is to say it should be another manner of private communication.

Aww yeah! Big smile I can feel the spaceship karma washing over me. Or that might just be the epic Immediate Music I'm listening to in the background.

I could go for that. It would be used far less then, though.

I could also go for being able to list exactly who liked a particular forum post, or limiting "likes" to one "like" per post per account. I can't help the feeling that so many of these CSM candidates only got 100 "likes" because their 20-30 man corp "liked" with all their alts.

Lol... funny thing is that I don't even know how many "total likes" I have and couldn't care less :)

Indeed I do feel the silliest, with my small likes.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Likes are like SP: the total is completely meaningless, but people try to assign meaning to it anyway (either by thinking of it as epeen or as some measure of “unfairness”). What matters is where they're placed and why.

I think you may have misunderstood my posts, personally I very rarely actually use the feature to give likes myself my experience is from when I have received likes mostly.

Though I do see it as a way of quitely making friends/contacts my purpose in that wouldn't be a bigger like count on A.n.other Intraweebs Forum but a genuine interest in people.

I'm sure you all are aware that it is possible to use automated script to increase likes count. Those scripts are available from this same forum and CPP employees are making jokes in same thread, so it can't be very bannable action either :)

The total count is more or less a joke, but as someone said earlier - it may give rough idea how active/old poster someone has been. I would prefer to see post count and character age for this purpose though.

Please no.
Dislikes or negative karma icons would just encourage some guys to shitpost even more.
