Savable PI Colony Setups

Heyo,

I posted this in the Science and Industry forum the other day, and someone suggested I post here as well. So here goes!

I haven't seen anything about this on the forums and I was thinking: it would be pretty awesome if we could have preset PI colonies. Example, I like to move the following setup around to get the nodes when they come up (as some planets can't support long connections): 1x Spaceport, 1x Extractor, and 3x Basic Industry Facilities. It takes a pretty long time to rebuild them for the big nodes that pop up, and it would be great if we could save colony setups. We can save ship fits, why not planet colonies?

Additional explanation: now when you take down a colony to place it somewhere else on the planet, you have to put a spaceport down, then an extractor, then some industry facilities, then connect them, then set the industry facilities, blah, blah, blah. I think it would be good if we could instead simply place 'Ice Colony Setup 1,' and place the storage facilities, spaceports, extractors, connections, and industry building settings at once.

Anywhoo, thought I would share, see what other people thought, try to get a feature like this into EVE if folks like it,

Cheers,

Heyo, was hoping to get some opinions and/or support for the idea, so I'm bumping the thread back up.

The problem is that every planet has a different pattern of hotspots. A ship can have saved fits because the same stuff always goes to the same spot. With planets, the extractors have to be all over, rather than in a specific spot. That's why this wouldn't work.

Ok, so you need to move the extractors all over the planet to hit different hotspots at different times. For some planets, having industry facilities connected to extractors on the opposite side of the planet isn't possible. So, you create a setup where you have a spaceport, industry facilities, and extractor in close proximity to each other. You save this setup. When a hotspot pops up across the planet, you delete your current colony, go to your 'Saved Colonies' window, select your saved colony, then place it next to the hotspot you want to harvest. It would totally work and would make moving colonies more efficient. It would totally work. I hope that explanation helps to clarify how it would work.

Another idea someone mentioned would be to be able to move all the buildings of an existing colony in concert, allowing you to move to a hotspot w/o having to deconstruct and reconstruct everything.

If you like the idea, give it a +1 (maybe we can get ccp to actually pay attention if there are enough)

(wishful thinking, perhaps, but it can't hurt!)
