I'm very glad to see the Eve web presence getting an overhaul. The current mish-mash has got to be off-putting to new players. Kudos for addressing the issue.

Alice, any chance of resurrecting the www.getaclone.com site, integrating it into the new front page? You could have it tie into the career choices (since that's what it did before, really) - it was a really fun and cool site and it's a shame it's gone!

Super awesome!!

I've seriously been waiting for this change for a long time, glad to see you're knocking it out of the park like this.

I recommend making sure you have a ship spin counter on the ship spinner please. To keep the experience authentic.

Really, great job, can't wait to see it! That old website needs to be taken to the back of the shed and put out of its misery! It's way out of date.

You managed to describe the play style of a pirate without mentioning PvP with a single word. If I would look for meaningful PvP instead of pointless NPC grind you find in all those other MMOs I would go the other way.

It's actually a remarkable achievement in itself to scare of those with PvP who are not looking for it after they joined the game and to scare of those who are look for PvP even before they joined.

The majority of players who sign up for the game don't stay for longer then a month after first payment. I always wondered why that is. Maybe it's because your advertisement is outright misleading?

Quick recommendations off the top of my head :

The copy writing on the Pirate description needs a bit of work. I understand this is all WIP and I don't expect an explanation - just saying it to say it.

Also, I think some emphasis should be put on the amount of time it gets to that position. That's just from a perceptual viewpoint when you get in game to go pirating immediately you have a lot of competition out there and a lot to learn. I'd say that you need to emphasize inter-pirate warfare too such as "Fight for the best pirating territory from other pirates!"

A lot of time pirating is actually spent protecting your turf from other pirates. Also, not everyone who lives in low sec is a pirate, some are anti-pirates. So, I think that adds something to the whole profession that people are not seeing on the initial level. You gotta earn your grub around here!

So, for all the professions try and see the next layer down that really makes the profession feel "Real" when you write the copy down. The devil really is in the details that makes some of these professions awesome.

With a lot of the player made game content you can also be a Gambler (EOH Poker, Blink, other lotteries), a politician, a community developer, a forum troll (this one is important), a scammer, etc.

EDIT : I agree with the above person - emphasizing that you are doing Piracy to other players is something to make sure is clear. Many players think of an MMO and then think that they're going to be doing stuff to NPCs all day. This goes back to what I said about fighting for the pirating turf.

PLEASE fix the accounts page that you mentioned as already done so that we can change credit cards in a sane manner.

There's no obvious way to do it, and the only way that *works*, once you figure it out, ends up with you being charged as soon as you enter the new card.

I think you have a good point. Maybe in addition to including these awesome new playstyle screens, you can also include a page with a CCP version of the (player made?) "what to do in Eve" chart? I don't have the link, but I'm sure someone here can provide it.

Yep these are good points and something I feel aware of as well. It's much appreciated to get this kind of feedback on it too, so thank you both. It's a balance between getting across that you can define your own path/gameplay style and that this can change (or be a mix) like you say, and also being able to give people an insight into what that means through showing them tangible examples.

you could solve this by adding another "profession" at the end of the list called something like "master of all trades" where you explain that you can basically mix everything without picking something.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Looks like we're in for interesting times.

p.s. When are we going to have working image tags on the forum? (deliberately low expectations)

Couldn't help but notice the Right upper corner saying "play Eve for Free" is that a referring vaguely to plexing or are we gonna start a new F2P discussion in the future ?

It is just a free trial ad I believe... a slightly misleading one, but hey... marketing...

Yeah I just want to confirm this is not referring to plexing, F2P or anything like that. It's the "try eve now" link that takes you to the Getting Started page I mentioned in the bullet points.

This is HIGHLY misleading.

TRY EVE for Free would be more correct. This is very much false advertising.

HTML5 !

Both the star map and the ship gallery are using WebGL (through html5 canvas).

Cool

OMG, thank you! Any plans on integrating http://www.eveisreal.net/ and/or ripping flash out of that as well? Will the IGB be updated to work with HTML5 and WebGL (I mean, the game is already using accelerated graphics via DirectX, so... ;)).

Your reply also saves me the need to reply asking that you please not use Flash, the bane of the Internets(sic).

Also add "Solo" to the play style listing at the bottom of your ad for being a Pirate. Group play is certainly not required and there are many solo pirates out there (even corporations which encourage their pilots to fly solo and only call on backup when needed/wanted).

What to do in Eve is one copy of it and attached here for posterity. Oh wait, I can't attach files...so a backup site is http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/ (which I believe may be the original).

Yes, this'd be an excellent picture to put on the front(ish) page, assuming that CCP can get permission to use it from the original author.
