I wonder what percentages are for of player characters race? In other words, which race is most popular? I'd guess Caldari, but that's just a guess. Anyone have a source for statistics?
(There was a really interesting Fanfest presentation on the sociology of EVE players, maybe from 2016. It might have the statistics. But I can't find the presentation on Youtube now).

Don't know the current statistics but way back when EVE wasn't called "Caldari Online" just for fun - lot of players chose them because they had the best starting attributes.

Also back then the demographics were off the top off my head #1 :Caldari #2: Gallente, #3: Amarr #4: Minmatar.
If FacWar statisticis are anything to go by, seems that is pretty much the case today too.

As far as I could tell, CCP never uploaded that presentation on their own channel, but another channel did have it.

I had created a playlist in my YT account but it's no longer there so I'm guessing it was removed at some point. A shame because it was one of the highlights of FF2016 for me.

One of Chribba's sites has statistics on the percentage of players of each race and each bloodline. http://eveboard.com/global/statistics Pretty surprising, to me at least. The number of Gallente pilots is equal to the number of Amarr and Minmatar pilots combined.

To be honest, the main reason for me choosing the Intaki bloodline is because of their unique view on Life, Death, and Reincarnation. The optimistic view of the cycles of life being a series of lessons to be learned really fits well with my ideals. The fact that my family have their own religious viewpoints about Buddhism kinda influenced that choice a bit.

Another reason is because, well, the Intaki race looks really good and their in-game lore is also one of the most fleshed-out culture complete with their own language system and a cultural background is another one of the many factors that influenced my choice.

I chose Caldari and Deteis for my main characters because I identified personally the least with the culture, society, and politics of the Caldari State. One of the things I enjoy the most in fictional settings is not to try and do the whole author insertion schtick and base my decisions of my characters as I would, or try to present an idealized version of myself by proxy through a fictional race or faction but rather to pick that which I feel is diametrically opposed to myself in some manner and explore a completely different mindset and outlook frankly and honestly.

Well, I have two primary characters.

For this one, I honestly can't remember exactly why I chose Amarr, it was nearly ten years ago. It may have had something to do with the Amarr lore seeming intriguing and very different from my own values, and wanting to try the challenge of playing someone who has very different values than my own (interestingly, while most of Garion's values are different from mine, much of his personality is similar). It may have also had something to do with the Amarr using lasers and having the prettiest ships, I'm not sure. The one factor I definitely remember as being part of it was that I wanted my character to be a trader. For this he clearly needed high charisma . . . and the combination of the race, bloodline, and background gave a fairly high charisma.

When I decided I wanted to make a second main character, I wanted her to be as different from Garion as possible. I was also interested in exploring the less savory aspects of fighting a rebellion, and playing a character that was fighting the good fight, but having to use rather questionable means because they were the underdog, and would get crushed if they fought fair. Thus, Minmatar. And then Sebisestor because I liked the engineer vibe and thought they looked the cutest.
