all these questions have only 1 answer: join a corp.
Mining in lowsec is not "good" due to high activity of pvpers all around it.

the best choice is to jump directly in nullsec.
Out there there are big coprs/alliances already established.
They will teach you, give you free ships,protect you while you mine etc etc
they will have already in place all the infrastructures you need to refine and build ships etc etc.
edit: i forgot buyback programs etc

best way to join eve is play togheter with other people imo.
don't be shy etc, all of us started as noobs :) and many are still noobs like me
just getting on the forum and asking/looking around is a very good mindset you have :)


Bigger alliances out there that accept noobs without problems (not in a specific order):
KarmaFleet (part of "goonswarm"), Brave, Pandemic Horde, Dreddit (part of "test alliance please ignore")
etc

those are the biggest realities atm, if you prefer a smaller group etc then you have to find them:
either checking the recruitement section here on the forum or using the ingame search to find the right corp you want :)

Just start training for a barge that fits your playstyle. Coveter is for fleets, proc is for .5-.6 space since its tankier and retriever is great for .9-1.0 space since its safer there and you have a bigger ore hold. There isn't any channels really to help you with skills (not that I know of anyways), but definitely get into a corp. Good Luck! Oh, I almost forgot. DO NOT buy anything from CODE.. They're an alliance of griefers and even if you buy a license or ticket w/e they're selling, they'll still kill you. Also if you want a suggestion on a corp/alliance that is full of good people (mature, positive, etc) and is very laid back then contact me in game.

Once you fly a procurer you can join a null-sec corp and can mine out there. You'll need good shield and drone skills to survive the battleship-sized npc pirates (who can warp scram you sometimes). But the ore is really good. If you join one of the larger corps you can even mine in a venture, just as long as there are other miners around to kill the pirates.

There are lots of groups who will take newbies.

There's no point in mining in low sec, especially as a newer player. The mining is better in null and safer. Once you learn how to live in low sec without constantly dying to pvp you can do it if you really want to, but I wouldn't bother.

Also PI is a lot better in Null than it is in Hisec.

I only joined code in the beginning due to I thought it was PvP, but later found out it is just ganking miners. I still float in there to see where they are and avoid them if I am mining in HiSec.

As for Low Sec, I am mining in there currently. Haven't been in Null Sec yet. I have been playing with probes recently and plan to explore some battlefields and get some experience fighting while my skills grow :)

TLDR: nulsec is safer than hisec. Join a nulsec corp.

When I logged-in with my nulsec alt [Circle-Of-Two] last evening, there were 38 blue (friendly) combat ships in-system, which is really unusual (normal population is around 9).

I learned that there had been a red (enemy) small Interceptor gang nearby, and the blue fleet had dealt with them (using a few smartbomb "disco" battleships).

Said blue fleet continued to hang-around for a couple of hours, in case of any red stragglers or log-ins. Of course, there was also the intel chat channel announcing any enemy sightings in the region, as well as the standing fleet channel (when you are not a part of another fleet, one joins the standing fleet).

During this time, I mined in relative safety. Despite the recent altercation, the system was even safer than usual.

The only thing I had to deal with were a few random NPCs (I dock, change to a combat ship, and deal the NPC, then resume mining).

When local is filled with only blue friends, you don't have to worry about being ganked or bumped.
