I find THAT very interesting. Could someone send a link to info on this (the smuggling part, not cheeseburgers)?

So the proof was the deprecated skill I proudly own, "Black Market Trading". It was supposed to make you less likely to be caught by customs agents. It never worked and in the best CCP tradition instead of fixing the bug, they nuked the skill.

Doubtful you can find any info on that still.. That was back in beta..

No, years into the released game it was still a thing. A bugged thing. But a thing. I have the skill trained to 3. :-)

Black Market Trading is a relic from beta that CCP never did anything with and hence it was deprecated when they "normalized" the character creation process and made every race equal.

The racial specific skills never worked and they never will.

We once had trailers like this and there were once ideas for there to be multiple ways to play the game, like as a clone soldier or fighter pilot too.

Eve is 13 (or 16, I'm drunk and have trouble counting) years old. 99% mmo's are dead after 3 years or become p2w sh****les. The game is "dying" but it's doing it so slowly that new players have a chance to join and updates have enough support to roll out, keeping the cycle alive. As long as CCP doesn't do something utterly stupid (like the infamous SW: Galaxies update) it will continue until heat death of the universe.

I'd say overall health is 4/5. Could be better but it's a niche game for a somewhat adult audience and spreadsheet fans.

Not sure what you think that the game is "fine" but if that`s your main account is then it`s ok to say this nonsense. The game is not "fine".

The trying to earn money by selling isk selling sp and selling store nonsense. Also the making the game more casual. Activision any one? Or EA style.

I`m stilling waiting for the eve mobile nonsense phone games. Sins that`s where the marketing is. People spend $$$$ way to many money on that "games".

I can relate to that i`m playing a game called "zombie slayer" on Facebook for more than 6 years. I never ever put a dollar in it. Some dude with tons of money buy his way up in less than 1 year. So that`s how this marketing works.

Eve is a old game and marketing strategy of this game is redounded. And that`s why CCP is making this turn around nonsense. Or old folks are a dying breed.

I`m not saying eve is dying just saying eve is on the path to making the game easy mode or pay to win crap.
And that`s 1 big reason i`m not sub to this game anymore. I just read the forum and hoping the game gets back where it was. But i guess i`m one of the few members left.

Now.....that's priceless right there. And just one of the reasons why I find GD more entertaining than cable TV.

If EvE dies before I do, (I'm one of those old folks) I hope CCP keeps the forums going anyway so I never pay a cable bill again.

Aside from a fact that I had nothing to do with those words, I think the audience here in general is fairly vintage and they are used to this looks and behavior of the forum. That is why I think new forums made using Discourse template will completely ruin it for those people.

So better dont cancel your cable.

The game is still breathing. But at this point, I get the feeling that CCP is more interested in milking EvE rather than extending its life.

Revenue is up but overall player numbers appear down. I used to be a trader back in 2012 or so, you could setup shop in even a minor mission hub and still make 100m+ isk per week. Those days are long gone. The customers just aren't there anymore.

OP, wrong question.

But, for your info, the biggest misconception in EvE I would like to put back straight:

- your character cannot die in EvE, it's impossible, only your ship or your stuff can be destroyed and a minute later you can replace it. Watch the introduction movie again very carefully !
- you cannot delete your character neither, even if you biomass it, it stays forever in New Eden, and can technically be restored back into the game.
- the less players, the better, because the more ressources are available for you. Ultimately if you would be alone in new Eden you could produce just anything you want and buy nothing.
- Eve online cannot die neither, it can only change hands or become a zombie game looking more like Singularity.
- you as a player/person will die before EvE, that is 99% probable. Your in-game character will survive you, did you even one minute realize this?

The only thing which can die in all this is you as a person and CCP, and we all hope it will happen as late as possible !

Ah, those were the times. Back then CCP was actually spending money on EVE and gave us something to look forward to. Player numbers were twice as high.

Now they are just milking EVE. Nothing to look forward to, game development goes at snails pace, monetizaion has #1 priority, bait and switch balancing, passive and 0 risk ISK incomes are rampant, huge ISK faucets unbalance the game, but nothing is done against it ... Anything goes as long as it benefits CCP revenues.

I think the health of EVE is pretty good, I think CCP are making a lot of really good choices at the moment, that are intended to help keep EVE going. I also think the community is improving, and with the changes to come in the next two years, i think it will continue to improve. The large number of people currently "leaving" the game, I suspect are bitter-vets, who are tired of complaining about this and that, and have finally bit the bullet. So give it a year or two, and i think EVE will be on the grow once again and better than ever, having cemented it's existence as one of the longest living MMORPGs around, aswell as one of the best dev and player relationships.

No, I will give you a starving pony on the brink of death in a sealed crate. It's dying day, not dead day. I'll let you decide if it's really dead or not.

I will give a cat in a box. It is both dead AND alive, as long as you keep the box closed.

Come to think of it, that's the best analogy for Eve's state. Thanks, Schroedinger!
