What's going on?

Fanfest used to be a really exciting event where you'd go learn more about where EVE is heading, discover exciting things to look forward to, and basically reaffirm your reasons why you love this game and are hear for the long term.

I just watched the "EVE" Keynote, which was basically Hilmar going VR! VR! VR!, followed by Devs more or less telling us what we already know about whats coming for EVE.

I got bored and stopped watching.

The reason it seemed 'boring' is because most of the really exciting stuff was already announced in dev blogs weeks ago. Refineries, already discussed to death. PLEX changes, been there. Blood Raider capitals, yup. And the few things we didn't know yet, like the Faction Citadels, were still pretty vague in their announcement.

I agree the keynote missed the 'wow' factor of previous years. If they're only releasing refineries in the winter I'd argue they could have saved that for the keynote tbh. The PLEX changes had to be announced early to do it right and the Blood Raider stuff was leaked early (among many other smaller stuff).

So yeah... you win some you lose some.

Sausage fest is always boring because of sausage.

Best to make it part of an extended holiday where you attend the bits you want and then go sight seeing. Northern lights are always worth a watch, but then so is Hilmars silky beard

At least they are holding off on player built Stargates.

That could have been a huge can of worms to open.

Yeah. I sure hope VR doesn't overshadow EVE Online development.

I don't know how to tell you this...

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Fanfest is not a spectator sport, in my opinion. Much like fleet battles in game, it looks pretty dull from the outside looking in. The fun is when you are participating.

Having said that, I've seen better and I've seen worse as far as introducing new stuff to the game is concerned. But here's the thing. The game is what we, the players, make it. CCP just supplies the tools. And while the tools shown today might not have been "sexy" enough for the armchair content reviewers, they were certainly enough to make the upcoming months quite interesting from the view of what kind of content we can create with them.

I was pretty satisfied with the presentation.

Still? Holy ****, not idea how you can be so blinded by an obviously hyped technology which has a very very limited potential and even a smaller market. I mean if you have only ONE product after 20!!! years, maybe produce for a market which has actual customers and not some high risk investment...

No.

But I was thinking about going this year. But didn't have the spare cash.

Yup, almost no new content, no new PVE, incursions, mining, ring mining, WiS, only some long long promises (yeaaaah like structures that all supposed to be released in 2 years and we got 1 per year...)
Sadly this may be the last fanfest for me.

I have to admit that there was nothing in there that "grabbed" me.

Mostly stuff that we already knew about and self congratulatory waffle.

As for the new trailer, I'm not convinced it'll attract any players.

Don't get me going about the permaband song either ;/

Solecist Project...." They refuse to play by the rules and laws of the game and use it as excuse ..." " They don't care about how you play as long as they get to play how they want."

Welcome to EVE.

that's a shame, pity they don't stream the 95% of fanfest you'll never get to see and experience unless you 've been there.

boring,,, far from it.

it's all about the people you'll meet while there, the friendships you create with your enemies in game.
the insight of listening to players giving their first hand account of many many many battles that have been fought.
they funny moments, the laughs, the tears (EVE monument remembering the fallen) truly feeling part of something much bigger than just a game, it's very different when you're there.

I've never watched an Eve Fanfest Keynote before and I actually found it interesting. I was also impressed by how committed the developers are to building on an and improving the game. There are few games that have lasted this long and have continuous investment into the game development. Most other MMOs are expansion packs of more of the same.

Dead space "planet cracker" eve style looks ok.

Was hoping blood raiders would get their own models ...there is better Bhaalgorn out there there just is.

All in all this is 1st fanfest since streaming start that i did not watch opening and cut after new pod pilot video(i liked it) and not finishing keynotes.

will probably get around to it at some point.
