Hey guys

So recently a number of people have been asking about how another player was able to show the ship bracket text for all ships on grid in space, not just the one ship that is selected. This option was originally created for use in the Tournament Tools, but seeing that the reaction has been very much "How do I get this?!", I thought it best to clear the waters and lay down that yes, you can use it and how to do so.

So first, the warning. This is an unsupported option, and if you turn it on, you do so at your own risk. Your client may lag, your computer might crash, your house could collapse, cats and dogs might start living in harmony, crops may wither and die, and pineapple on pizza may be outlawed in Iceland. If you do run into problems while you have this option turned on, you're on your own. Having this option on is grounds for reimbursements to be denied, regardless of other circumstances. So again, use this at your own risk.

If you're still brave enough to turn it on, here's how you do it. On your computer, go to "%localappdata%\CCP\EVE\". You should see a bunch of folders, one of them will be named after the path of where your shared cache is located, and will end with tq_tranquility. Inside that folder will be more folders, one of each of your profiles you have created in the launcher.

Open the folder for the profile you want to change, then open the prefs.ini file (if it's not there, make sure you've launched the EVE client at least once with that profile active). Add the following line to the file, then save the file and restart your client if it's running.
bracketsAlwaysShowShipText=1

Now whenever you use that profile in the launcher to launch a client, all ship brackets will always show their own labels. However, also keep in mind that this option also disables the bracket for your own ship all of the time, and that it doesn't show the text for pods. There may be other unexpected behavior, so again use at your own risk!

You can turn this option off again by removing the line from the file, but you will have to restart the client after saving the file for it to take effect.

(For those of you using OSX, you can find the folder you need here: ~/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache/wineenv/drive_c/users/username/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_tq_tranquility - thanks Arthur Aihaken)

Thanks for posting this info but after reading the warning, no thanks.

Definitely don't want to activate a possible Apocalyptic Event.

Besides that, the UI has more than enough intel happening in it already.

Are there plans to support this overview feature in the future?

It would be an amazing QOL change, especially if we could see our own ship bracket at the same time.

My folder is "e_eve_sharedcache_tq_tranquility", and the only folders inside it are "cache" and "settings_Default".

Is my installation borked in some way? The game works fine.

It will be inside the settings_Default folder.

If you've been in a huge battle or anywhere else where there are thousands of ships on the screen, you'd get why this will never have official support. The game can choke on bracket overload as it is now, I can only imagine how much worse it would be trying to draw text labels as well.

Great option that should probably be implemented as an actual ingame option.

I'm having trouble finding the file though, this is what my AppData/CCP/EveOnline folder looks like : https://puu.sh/uA7ok/b12dc46ff5.png

There is nothing in the Launcher file except from a text file called "Log".
I'm using Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp. I also have enabled Windows to show hidden files.

Any ideas?

This makes both space and the Overview more useful, as you can visually compare the Overview to what you see in front of you.

Please consider ascending this to become a new option for customizing overview tabs. It'd be amazing if I could control which things get text simply by clicking a different overview tab - customize text display true/false based on target, standings, criminal status, type of ship, ally, maybe even distance to my ship, etc...

If the CPU usage could be managed, this could be a huge help for helping newbies get into the game and I would actually advocate it be on by default for all new players. Far from overloading with information, it makes "those blips on screen" actually meaningful. I would have definitely appreciated this if I had it when I was originally starting out. I was so confused as to what the hell the squares were.

As a bonus, it looks like something straight out of Star Trek. (example A) (example B)

You went to %appdata%, not %localappdata% (You can see it in the path, you're at roaming, not local)
