Gallente or Caldari?

So recently, I've been getting rather bored of my Minmatar pilot, so I'm thinking of selling it.

Instead, I think I would rather make a pure Gal or Cal character, and since I have flown neither, I would appreciate some advice based on ship validity in PvE.

Here are my meager thoughts on the two so far...
Gallente
Pros - I love the looks of the ships, I love the drone focus of a few of the ships, and I've heard the Kronos is pretty decent.
Cons - Hyrbrids, I've heard alot of bad things in regards to hybrids.

Caldari
Pros - From what I've seen, they are some of the best tanking ships, they seem to have pretty high damage.
Cons - The ship aesthetics. I know it seems small, but I would be hard pressed to fly something I don't enjoy the look of. Eccentric? Yes. But to me, it matters quite a bit.

Are hybrids really as bad as people make them sound?

Ok, there are a few space potatoes, but there's also the Hyperion for example or the Megathron. And there is no denying the looks of the nemesis. In fact, most of the frigates look nice in my opinion.

But you are quite right about a couple of space vegetables.

gallente take allot more sp to make good use of their ships. for example:
brutix fitted properly with a 1% powergrid implant you can roll out 900+ dps short range with blasters.
tripple rep myrm with implants/pills is pretty much ownage.
neut domi / spider tank domi/ blaster domi all great
Arazu/Latch are some serously amazing ships. insta scrams/ long points/ sensor damps/ excellent covert cyno ship for BO
Keres is pretty much a mini latch and wonderfull to have in fleets

these are just a few examples that gallente are better then what people have been making them out to be. Blasters are okay they need ccp love.

Gallente

Blasters never get in range, Brutixs effective dps in falloff is far outshadowed by the Hurricane (if the tier costs are not counted.) But when they do, they can spit out a insane amount of dps until the cap boosters run out. Side note, the first time you are kited you will waste your gtc money on a new keyboard cause you smashed it. Deimos is worthless. Domi, Proteus, and Ishy are what you need to get to and can make you money and pvp. (Prot being your solopwn mobile that when willing to commit slaughters all, Ishy money making ninja plexer with cloak.)

And Rails... hahahahahaahahahaahahahahahaha...
ha

Caldari

Well, they have decent buffer and best universal ewar system. Falcon, Drake, Tengu, Armour Buff Scorpion, being your goto ships depending on where you live/what you need to do. Drake/Tengu make you money, Falcon makes you a wonderful primary in a fleet fight- but in gang pvp is a god when done right. (Falcon decloaking after fight starts, out of point range and aligned out ecming support till tacklers start chasing them.) Armour buff scorp is great in CERTAIN fleets and is a rather decent way for a caldari pilot to be useful.

Capitals
As for caps, that is a entirely different discussion, but in general Gallente have a solid cap lineup, while Caldari are better ships of the line with less versatility. Range and cap transfers help caldari.

Overall, Gallente are far more rewarding. But have issues scaling into fleet combat. Good luck with your decision.

(gah stupid forums)

Ok, so to write what I just wrote again... I like Gallente. I haven't flown others, but I like the look of the ships! Megathrons are simply sweet. Hybrids... I'm not a numbers cruncher. I don't pvp. Stuff I hit in PVE, stays hit. Stuff too close, that's why there are drones.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Errr.... since this is PvE, instead of selling the char, why not cross-train into flying Gal/Cal ships? Saves you the hassle of re-training the fitting skills and weapons support skills.

Or did you really mean to say that you're going to buy a Gal/Cal instead?

For PvE, go with Caldari and train up to HMLs and get a Tengu. Hybrids are pretty bad for PvE.

However, if you prefer the looks of the Gal ships over the Caldari enough to ignore functionality, then go with Gal drone boats. And see a therapist. Big smile

When it comes to Gallente PvE, hybrid guns play a small role simply due to the fact you're relying mostly on drones. However, yes, with the attributes the ships have like speed, ship bonuses, PG, CPU or capacitor capacity railguns are awful. Beside this with Caldari you have a Drake availible which is great for everything exept mining. ishtar used to be sick, but now there's T3 ships.

the only pve ship for gallente that stands out is the proteus because in covops configuration for exploration it can tank serps and guristas like a boss so you don't have to kite like a pussy, can perma run a mwd, deals ******** dps with blasters and has a drone bay. that's about it.

That's not entirely fair. An Ishtar can do nasty things in PvE as well. And a properly fit Dominix/Navy Domi is just about the top of the heap in both T1/non-pirate mission blitzing (in a shield gank configuration) and (of course) lazy AFK missioning.

By the by, I'd forgive much on the Proteus if the covops sub matched the Drone Synthesis Projector minus the blaster bonus (and went down to, say, one or two turrets). But since that's not the case, you can't really get a covert drone build out of one and so for PvE you might as well just use an Ishtar as you're going to be slapping a proto cloak on either (if you want to cloak/probe/etc).

Agreed. The Ishtar is still quite viable at PVE, especially considering the price difference between it and a Proteus. It will still do Guristas complexes like nobody's business, and can fit a great tank due to its resists. The Megathron is still a great all-around battleship (sniper/blaster) , the Dominix is still a very easy ratting ship, drones are pretty awesome (if still somewhat vulnerable to smartbombs and finicky commands), the Proteus is pretty good, and hybrid weapons are mediocre. Caldari obviously use missiles primarily, so consider that if you ever want to get into Caldari pop. The Basilisk is a very in demand ship, the Raven is a great all-around PVE ship, and the Tengu is a VERY popular ship in general. I'd say if you wanted to move towards fleet ECM, go Caldari, otherwise Gallente.

First come smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire.

Why sell the character, and not cross-train instead? Not like you have to be Gallente to fly the stuff, plus no bonus to flying anything that matches your race.

I'm a biased Drone Boater so I'll stay out of it :P

Crosstrain Minmatar to Gallante, then fly Dramiel/Cynabal/Mach. FOTM + good looks.Big smile

I like the looks of many Gallante ships too. Especially the Myrm, which used to handle as awesomely as it looked, then the nerf bat went down. Atm, the only truly good Gallante ship is the space potato, not exactly a looker...What?

I'd say Caldari. Their ships are very good, especially the Raven and Drake. Gallente is okay, but not amazing.

I fly Caldari, Gallente, and Amarr. I prefer Caldari ships.
• The Navy Raven is a very capable PvE ship.
• The Drake is the most flown non-industrial ship in Eve.
• The Tengu is the most flow T3 ship in Eve.
• The Navy Scorpion is a good stepping stone to the Navy Raven.

That said, I love my Navy Dominix. It can fit six 425RGs if you up the PG. I plan on getting a Navy Megathron soon. Both ships have nice drone bays and nice hybrid damage.

I have to say, one of the coolest looking ships in the game is the Vindicator. Take a look at that ship. If you want looks, that one is hard to beat. It requires Minmatar BS though.

On a side note, I prefer the ammo (mainly anti-matter) of hybrids. Cruise missiles require zydrine, which can be annoying to keep in stock. Hybrid ammo uses lower grade minerals, so it is much easier to supply for yourself. Granted, this only applies if you build your ammo.

This . In one year , everyone will say "OMG GALLENTE ARE SO FOTM GO FOR IT GO GO GO !" .

Plus , in terms of PvE , since no one like us for this , our space is rather Empty so you can get better payout with the LP/exploration stuff Big smile
