Warp Viscosity Sov Structures and Deployables

  1. These are structures operating on an IFF (identify friend/foe) mechanic to alter the speed of ships traveling through warp in a system (sov structures) or a pocket of space, 1-25 AU range (with mini deployables). Players can use access lists to configure how the IFF operates when altering warp capabilities of ships (i.e. going faster or slower).

  2. Personal deployables have a more pronounced effect (compared to sov level structures) slowing down a ship in warp that travels through the pocket. The intensity of the effect on deployables is also determined by the configuration of the effect range, 1 to 25 AU. The smaller the range, the greater the effect on slowing down or speeding up.

  3. Warp Viscosity modifiers do not pull you out of warp.

  4. Player owned Warp viscosity structures can only be deployed in null and wormhole space. Factions in empire space control their own structures and the properties of these are impacted by your standing to a faction (better standing, faster travel speeds through that faction's territory).

no npc variants and no IFF have them effect everyone and MAYBE the idea could work but over all it just seems like a way to make rating that much safer in null

What issues do you have with npc variants based on a standings system?

because a lot of us do not want to grind npc standings just to move at normal speed

You could treat the mechanic as positive reinforcement.

10.0 empire standings = 2x warp speed
0.0 = current normal warp speed
-10.0 = 0.75x current speed

or you could do away with speed reduction on the sov levels structure and just offer speed increase with these sov structures (both player owned and npc). Current warp speed is the baseline and you can only go up. This way it wouldn't be as large of a safety blanket to ratters checking local for possible hostile warp-ins. Rather it would serve a function of faster warp traversal over friendly/allied territory.

again i don't want to grind and now you have turned this from protecting ratters to boosting power projection. is there a game play need you see for these or is this just a "wouldn't it be cool if"

It's power projection under the guidelines of structures can be contested (with entosis modules for example) or destroyed. There's opportunity for a risk versus reward paradigm that can be explored in further detail.

The empire/faction standing benefits to warp speed modifies allow people to specialize in various regions of space.

see but we don't need any more tools for power projection and even if you keep base speeds the same you are still punishing players that have no interest running missions
