Hello,

Just returned to eve but have found the disable station environment button is missing?

Having clients in the station now really makes my GPU work hard for no reason. I have lowered all graphics to minimum which is kinda ruining my in space game play for the sake of not burning my GPU while I am temp afk or busy in a station with spread sheets.

We really need this back, its a complete waste of energy and is forcing people to min graphics settings for zero reason.

Kind Regards,

Brew.

I'm pretty location independent in game, I end up sitting in citadels when I can because it has an outside view you can use. No annoying animations, seizure inducing flashing lights, or any of the other bad stuff they've added to station interiors while I was away from the game. Also has faster (read no) load times for docking/undocking. Other than that, CCPs attitude every time they remove choices has always been "suck it up, we dev'ed it, we'll be damned if there isn't a 100% adoption rate!"

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

No offense but sounds like you need to invest in a better GPU. I have a an i5 CPU old Sandybridge setup, and a 980GTX card and I have NO problems with it overheating or having issues in a station.

If your GPU is struggling with heat, then you are having cooling issues. I would look inside your case, do a real DEEP cleaning, and see if that improves anything, if not your GPU cooling fan maybe dead, then it is time to get a new GPU. They are not that expensive and a decent older card that can run this game on max is easy to come by.

Yes, it is missing, and yes, we were saying it should not be removed.

Obviously they really wanted to show us all this work they did with interior. P

Find the Ship Chart button and press it. Voila, station environment disabled (it actually reduces the load on the graphics card / stops rendering the 3D interior).

I'd prefer to see a "decontaminate station environment button"

I also miss the disable station environment button. No idea why they removed it.
It seems they want us to watch annoying in station ads.

Which is sort of funny, since they are covered by lots of windows 10 seconds after docking Lol. Total waste of effort.

Remove standings and insurance.

This feature was removed because its implementation, which rendered a frame of the hangar scene and then replaced the hangar view with that frame, required a fair amount of ongoing maintenance to keep working, and yet was used by a very small percentage of players.

That said, we're aware that it had a lot of value for certain use cases and will continue to discuss what we can reasonably do to help those who used the feature.

That would be really nice, since the staition environment now uses more GPU than an undocked ship in a battle. Just give us "Interior Shader Quality: off" and "Interior Effects: off".

Or disable interior and use image of a door instead. Cool

open the ship tree. it is less stressful for old GPUs to render.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I like the adds and I would not mind if instead of interior station we just had a add stream instead, just as long as its not cooking my GPU and wasting energy.

I think a GTX970 is more than enough for eve & I've yet to see a single game where a GTX980 has any visual benefit over a 970. Also the card is not overheating its just pointlessly working for visual effects that I am not seeing as I am spread sheeting.

Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like the problem with the old view was one of maintenance. I can't imagine how dificult it would be to include a series of static images for each ship/station combo, or possibly even a static ship image would be enough. If something isn't working quite correctly the better approach is to look how else that thing could be done, not simply remove it. But, you know, ::effort::

Manually creating "artwork" (just a screenshot will probably not be "good enough") for the 200+ ships in-game for 4 station interiors (Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar) = 800+ artwork-level images. Sounds like a lot more work than the render system that CCP Darwin described.

Plus, you know, 4K resolution on each image * 800+ = some GB to download. And out of the 800+, you typically use how many ships? docked at how many different stations? You probably won't want to download the gigabytes to use only a tiny fraction of the images, for the few ships you have at the few stations you use.

Finally, what percentage of the playerbase multiboxes hard enough to really need the graphics load decrease? From CCP's point of view, it's not worth putting in the work and pushing a large-ish patch to everyone, if only 0.1% of the players will benefit from it.

Especially since opening the Ship Chart already does the job. It's a full-screen 2D (interactive) image that completely covers (and thus disables) the rendering of the 3D station interior behind it.

Ok first I doubt the numbers CCP has said were using this feature. Most people I interact with in eve on comms 100+ have universally agreed that they miss this feature. As for effort on CCP's part, the previous system of a door picture sufficed if it was not a little less than imaginative. I'd rather have a picture of a door than a bigger whole in the Ozone layer because I wanted to dock and read a spread sheet.

What is happening instead is players are now simply resorting to the lowest graphic settings or entering into graphic interface such as the ship tree to prevent pointless work by a GPU on graphics that are hidden behind spread sheets, intel channels ship fitting windows, ect & ect.

We now have GTX 970 to 1080ti players, playing EVE on the lowest graphic setting throughout their entire in game experience because of the removal of this feature, this is frankly ridiculous.

The unfounded rumours on Reddit is that it is a jobsworth at CCP justifying the removal of this feature to further promote his station interior work & corp advert system. If this is true it is too the detriment of those responsible for every other graphic artwork in the game which I now enjoy at the lowest setting on my GTX970. I think this unfounded rumour is unlikely & I am sure that the entire artwork team is a lot less focused on this with teams co-op'ng on both ship, space & station interiors.

well that was before you added the station spam, im sure if you add this feature now you will see a lot more users

also its not the first time you guys have lied when quoting usage statistics

I was under the impression that the problem was keeping the render system working through new patches, and that the extra time in re-doing the render system was deemed a waste. So my proposal is that you come up with a system that won't need much or any reworking.

I understand what you're saying about having 800 ship/station combos but that doesn't necessarily mean a large patch where you download 800 seperate images, each with 4k resolution. The 4 races stations could be just 4 static background images, in fairly low quality. That way you reduce your 800 images down to 200 hulls + 4 station backgrounds. Now if you want to cut down on work as much as possible, only have 4 background images for the different stations and forget the ship. The images of the ships themselves must already be in game somewhere, for us to have things like ship icons. So you don't need to redownload anything.

Sure you sacrifice quality, but the entire point is to have a button that says 'I don't care about station interior quality, I just want performance.'
