Newbie asking some questions about mining corps

Hello there,
I'm pretty new of the game but I guess I know the basics.
I would like to know how a mining corp works: somehow I found pretty funny working togheter to make isk.

My main character is combat-oriented, but I would like to have fun also with mining.
I have some questions:

To enter a mining corp, should I need to be a miner/hauler? Or I can enter a mining corp with my combat oriented character to provide protection for example?

What kind of roles there are in a mining corp?

How much and how people are "paid" ?

Anyone willing to explain how usually mining corps works?

Mining corporations are usually personality based, because if you're sitting there shooting space rocks, you ought to be chatting and enjoying eachothers presence. Find some dudes that will take you in and teach you the ropes.
