Scanning Rethink

Problem:

Ever jumped into a wormhole and found 46 sigs? Having to sort each one, adjusting probe location and size on that many sigs is extremely tiresome and takes no real skill. Its just work.

My idea is to change the way probing is implemented by implementing the following:

1) Ability to click the sig name and have probes autocentre on that sig.
2) Ability to click the sig name and have probes auto-size to the radius of the sig.
3) Either a display such as this or an audio tone that will tell you if the sig is wormhole, ore site, combat site, ship etc which you will pick up as you practice your probing.

The benefits of this is less RSI, less work and the establishment of a people skills based system, where you learn to differentiate based on your cognitive skills.

Also a lot less work to combat probe people. The removal of the auto-center function was done so that probe patterns could be introduced. Both patterns and auto-center is far too powerful.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

so you make it only work with non-combat probes.

They made scanning so easy it was became tedious and no fun.... now you want to make it even easier to the point that it may as well be automatic?

Its already stupidly easy, just tedious.

My idea would be quicker if you recognised the pattern / tone from previous experience scanning or difficult if you were new.

Probing needs to returned to a talent not a simple click of the mouse any idiot can do.

The scan result is a triangle Smile

I would rather have the signature ID on that triangle.

That's exactly what I'm getting at.

The idea is similar to how sonar works in real life. Any idiot can operate a sonar system, turning a dial to get a return, the skill is in recognising the return and identifying it with your experience and talent.

The 'old' system was not 'talent needed' either. It was just a matter of RSI inducing clickage. All they did was remove the need for all the extra spammage clicking. (Yes I know there was an even older system, that again was just clickage). The rebalancing of skills is what seems to have made it easier as a lot of people hadn't fully trained all their skills but they didn't change the sig sizes.
