Idea for mining/strip mining lasers

This idea wouldn't make a huge change to any part of the game really. Just a cool idea.
Quick Story:
Imagine if your driving around in your mining barge drinking your beer and mining away. Then some Pirate pirate warps in and decides to attack you. The pirate zaps your warp drive so your stuck and can't get away. Your ship is about to go down but then you think... "hey I'm probably gonna get wasted but I wonder what my Strip Mining Laser would do to his ship?" So you shoot that thing at the front window of his ship and the metal around the front window and all the iron in his blood gets sucked away by the strip miner. It sort of looks like what Magneto did to that security guard to help him escape in the X2 movie.

Now apply this to Eve. A mining laser might do a little damage to a ship if the ship's shields were down. Like your drones beat down the shields then you start zapping with the mining laser to get a little extra dps into the fight. It wouldn't have to be much. It would probably be comparable to a small weapon that did something tiny like 5 or 10 dps. Doing something like this wouldn't be a game changer or anything, It would just make miners feel cooler/safer while mining. Big smile

How is 5 or 10 DPS going to make the slightest bit of difference when you're already doing 150-200 with your drones?

Guys you could always add more to that number, but you need to re-read the last sentences of my original post.

Would be okay with it even if it were a game changer. Would need to work out the DPS ticks on a continuous beam though- I assume you won't wait the full 72 sec cycle time to get it done?

Could see this affecting structure, armor and shield in equal measure- a one of a kind weapon!

I like the idea of miners defending themselves.

Most miners would still die ...
... especially in highsec ...
... but i don't see a reason against this.
