Website scrollbars and expected behavior

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but I couldn't find a relevant "feedback" link.

Scrolling on the main website (https://www.eveonline.com/) works opposite of what it should and if the user attempts to use the scroll-wheel, the scroll-bar does nothing, whereas it did if the user never used the scroll-wheel.

I understand this is done for immersion purposes or to impress, but it achieves the opposite effect:

  • It can cause a user to think that something is wrong with their mouse or the browser
  • It can cause a user to think the browser tab is broken
  • It causes frustration when you're trying to just go down and see what the rest of the page is about, but the browser refuses to comply

I would argue that this is a misfeature and should be changed so that the scroll-wheel and scroll-bar operate as expected. My basis is the principle of least astonishment, which is a core UX rule.

The fact that the updates sub-domain (http://updates.eveonline.com) similarly overrides the default and expected behavior but in a different way makes things doubly worse. Not only is that a site for active players (so there is really no reason to try and impress them and there are no scroll-bar shenanigans on any other sub-domain or CCP/Eve Online website) it doesn't behave in the same way the main website does. Instead, it locks the scroll-bar completely, but scrolling with the mouse-wheel behaves as usual. This causes further frustration because once you've learned to expect it to work a certain way on Eve websites, it throws you for a loop and suddenly does a different thing.

I know this is probably at the very bottom of the list of feedback, but it has frustrated and annoyed me almost every time on the updates site which I've been visiting lately. Please consider removing this behavior and have scrolling behave normally.
