Press Release 118.05.28
Safizon II - Moon 1 - Amarr Navy Assembly Plant

Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.”

Little did we know, thousands of years ago, the wonders and mysteries that would be revealed to us, and the dangers that lurk in the dark spaces in between.

Arataka Research Consortium [ARC], with its sponsors and partners Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries Ltd. [IKAME], Tyrathlion Interstellar [TYRIN] and Societas Imperialis Sceptri Coronaeque [SFRIM], call upon their fellow wanderers of all meridians to join them for the Fifth Seyllin Conference.

This year, the Fifth Seyllin Conference will present two tracks of presentations by the Cluster’s best minds and bravest explorers: “Threats” and “Mysteries & Wonders”.

  • Threats - Knowledge is the greatest weapon that we have to combat the threats that continue to assail the Cluster that is our home.
  • Mysteries & Wonders - The Cluster is filled with wonder and mysteries, and we still have yet to explore and understand them all.

The Fifth Seyllin Conference will take place on 118.07.09 and 118.07.10, at a location to be announced. The Seyllin Conference Committee is now taking submissions for presentations.

Submissions

We are looking forward to submissions from presenters both old and new. The process is as follows:

  • Post on this announcement thread that you wish to submit a presentation.
  • Mail a brief summary (including any special requirements or staffing) to Jennifer Starfall, Makoto Priano, and Morwen Lagann.
  • One of the Committee will mail back to confirm they have received your submission. If you receive no such response within 48 hours, please post here again.
  • The Committee will review the submission and may request additional information. You will receive a mail notifying you of your selection and time slot.
  • Submissions will be closed at 23:59 on 118.07.02.

  • On behalf of Arataka Research Consortium, thank you, and look forward to seeing you at the Fifth Seyllin Conference.

While we haven't made announcements to this point, it bears mentioning that the Arataka Research Consortium will of course also be presenting some materials.

I'll be presenting on possible links between the Talocan Static Gate infrastructure and the unidentified Sleeper devices we now believe to be inactive or dismantled in the Nexus, the massive spatial rift hidden within Drifter Hive facilities. This presentation would certainly qualify as a discussion of 'Mysteries and Wonders,' I believe.

ARC Coordinator Morwen Lagann has also put forward presentations on Drifter combat techniques, whether Ciniel's Incursion methodology, or the evolution and refinement of ARC Hive combat techniques.

We of course look forward to more presentations, as some of the ideas we've seen presenters discussing have been fascinating, even if they have not yet settled them completely.

As always, events of this sort serve best as a community forum.

Any pilots wishing to organize a presentation or a panel, or wishing to solicit the same from subject matter experts, are invited to join the conversation.

I hope to be able to find the time to attend the conference.
I unfortunately have not had the time to discover or find anything of value that I could present myself.

As acting Curator of the Synenose Accord, via subsidiary, I wholeheartedly offer my support to yet another conference hosted by ARC, IKAME, TYRIM, and SFRIM.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

That would be a very easy way to get shot at a checkpoint. Hypothetically speaking, you know.

    Dramabombs sure.

    Explosive ones, not so much.

Also, what kind of thing falls under the category "Mysteries and Wonders" ?

Some of our work for example, is really only of interest to a very select audience.

The usual examples I would think of for that particular category include (but are obviously not limited to) things such as the Children of Light, the Pool of Radiance, the Vapor Sea, or any number of other natural phenomena. I doubt we would count out similar things of a more terrestrial nature, either.

As for the ridiculous question about explosives... does Borkstar's little series of "look at me!" stunts from last year's Conference count?

I look forward to attending this event both days, and am encouraging Signal Cartel members to attend and submit presentation topics for consideration.

Edited to ask: Is there a guideline for how long presentation slots are? Can relevant materials be submitted for listing in the conference catalog without being the subject of a presentation during the event?

    Excellent questions, Mynxee!

I'll have to consult with the coordinators on the second, but on the first: in previous years, given some inefficiencies in the neocom translation software, we've provided up to an hour and fifteen minutes for each slot. Naturally, for those who are well prepared with their presentation transcripts and materials for neocom translation, this can easily be compressed. At this early stage, we have flexibility on that front.

For instance, my planned presentation on the Nexus and Talocan Static Gates should occupy, I suspect, thirty or forty-five minutes.

On the relevant materials front, I think what I'll propose to the committee is this: we reserve a slot for a publications review, and present recent and new publications of note for the attendees. Publications prepared expressly for this will be very much appreciated!

My thanks for your prompt reply. I know there may be some Signaleers who although unable to attend might nevertheless be able to contribute papers and research data, so having that option available could result in more information for all attendees.

And more research is a good thing, absolutely.

We will, as has historically been the case, provide transcripts and publications after the event. Still, for those pilots who are interested, several panels are planned with Q&A segments. Given this, I do strongly recommend attendance if at all possible, or at least providing questions by proxy.

    Mr. Dax;

The event will be held in the Seyllin system, scheduled for 118.07.09 and 118.07.10.

We are in the process of completing security arrangements for the site, and so have not formally announced it.

Please be aware that you are noted as an associated of Tom Horn. Considering Tom Horn's threats against IKAME personnel, ARC personnel, and other members of the public, you'll understand of course that we plan to maintain absolute security and will be providing the shuttles ourselves, and disarming all prospective visitors. Attempts to disrupt the proceedings will also be dealt with directly.

We are still looking for more people who are interested in giving a presentation in either the "Threats" or "Mysteries and Wonders" tracks.

If you've got an idea for a presentation in either track, please send a mail to Jennifer, Makoto and myself. ARC may be hosting SeyCon this year, but that doesn't mean we want to monopolize it!

Thisis Conference has been a fountain of knowledge (and new questions) every year. With a bit of negotiating with prior obligations, I think I might be able to attend in person this year. What an honor it'll be to hear some of the foremost minds in the Cluster for sure.

    Hello, pilots!

Just wanted to remind everyone that our schedule proceeds, and we'll be closing submissions for presentations end-of-day on July 2nd.

Of course, even if you're not interested in presenting, knowledgeable panelists are always sought.
