Not completing a contract

What are the downsides of completing a courier contract, as opposed to failing it? After trying to complete a courier contract for the first time today, a "are you sure?" message popped up and made me wonder its purpose (it wouldn't be there without a reason, I guess).
Now the clock is ticking and I'm still unsure whether I should complete this contract it or not.

If you complete, it you get the reward stated in the contract and get your collateral back.

If you fail it, you get to keep the items in the contract but you lose the collateral you handed over when you accepted the courier contract.

Eve is full of pop-ups asking "if you are sure?"

Are you sure you don't want to steal stuff from courier package in exchange of collateral (which might be set too low by mistake)?

The downside of completing it is that you hand over the items. (You keep them if you fail the contract.)
The downside of not completing it is that you do not get the collateral back, and you do not receive the reward. (You receive both once you deliver.)

So simply numbers-wise, compare value of items against value of reward+collateral. (Hint: www.evepraisal.com is very valuable for this.)
Reputation-wise, delivering makes happy customers, failing makes disappointed ones.

Or, if you get sploded during hauling, you keep neither the items nor the collateral.

If it's worth it to splode you, someone might actually splode you in hisec.

And, sometimes, the collateral is insane because they plan to explode you in transit, because then they get to keep it.

Look at the contract's destination. See if it goes to a high sec location but happens to pass through a single low sec system. If it does, that is where the ambush is set up. The contract is for taking your deposit with a crate full of junk.

Also, see if the reward is rather hefty - in a temptation sense. Remember: If it looks too good to be real, it is.

If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.
