++ Corp recruiting in Eve Online ++

It's supposed to keep spys out of the corp, but it got a bit out of hand lately in my opinion ;)

Yes, there are potentially those reasons as a negative for avoiding corporations that require a full API. On the other hand corporations who actually want to go places need to avoid awoxers(someone who will kill others set to friendly status) and their alts. The lazy way of creating an alt has been through just sending them money, which the api will show. Same goes for using rmt, quite a few don't want to invest in someone who will just go poof by being banned. The asset viewing portion of the api can be used to catch a corp thief who is sticking around to potentially get more stuff. In the end both a corporation and a player needs to be cautious to stop potential scams.

If somebody asks for your "full API key"


- Yes they can see your wallet balance and any transactions.


- Yes they can see your assets


- Yes they can read your EVE mail


- NO they cannot touch or affect your character or account in any way.




Basically, every box you check governs what somebody can see via API. And yes, most corps will ask you for a full API key in order to perform basic counterintel. It seems like literally the first thing a spy would cover up, but you'd be suprised how many dudes try to spy with tainted accounts.

I'm always wary of corporations that ask for a full API key up-front. Usually, the corporations that know what they're looking for will ask for keys limited to very specific information, rather than asking for a blanket full-data API.

Basically, because scamming, spying and killing your corp mates are all legal mechanics in EVE, many corps run a 'background check' on your character by ways of your API key. They check some stats of your char, like money, mails, stuff like that. It's a pretty common thing in EVE, sadly. You'll get used to it.

It's for a background check to make sure you're not a spy. It's normal and almost all corps do it. It's nothing to be worried about. Well, I guess if you're a spy it is, but you know what I mean.


Afraid they'll find out you've been buying an alarming number of Exotic Dancers, Male or something?

lol. It means you have a corp with a leadership that isn't confident in its abilities and needs a crutch. Thing is, what they think they can track they can't track with this method. Some people are strange, though, and there's not much you can do about that.

There is one thing, however. Don't be in a corp or alliance with an API requirement, unless it's enough to help you with an EVEMon schedule. The idea they can find spies using API is akin to thinking the moon is made of cheese and she'll respect you in the morning.

In the military we have "confidence training." No, it has nothing to do with that self-esteem your middle school teacher insisted you have. It has to do with confidence in a gas mask. Believe it or not, some people will refuse to use a gas mask. They just don't believe either there's gas, or the mask will actually work.

What they do is sit you in a room filled with tear gas with this mask on. After twenty minutes or so (give or take) you have to stand up, take off your mask, say your name, then leave the room. Believe it. You know when you take off that mask, you are in a room full of gas and that mask was keeping it from you - in a very big way.

There is no test like this for people's thoughts and their tendency to convert their beliefs into facts. They believe they can track spies with the API. (They know they're too slow to track one at all on their own.) They praise the digital gods there is an API, then demand you give them yours.
