Hello. I just got into the game a few weeks back, and ive had a friend helping me learning the basics of it.

I was just brought over into Null Sec, and i now need a way too make some ISK on my own.

The two ships i have been looking at is the Gila and the Vexor Navy. I will use whatever one i get for about 1-2 months untill i try and get a Ishtar instead.

I will only use this ship for Ratting, and ill be flying a Svipul for when i do other things.

My (nooby) question is, would a Gila or a Vexor be best for Ratting in Null sec, and what sort of Fit should i be running on it?

The only Fit i have too go off atm is a Ishar one, and i guess that wont be very viable even for a Vexor.
(The Ishar build im looking at - Getting a build like this for w/e ship is best would be awsome)

Gila is better for newer players as all the damage is in the role bonus.

Neither are suited for noobies.

My recommendation would be a Drake. She is very forgiving and can be flown in all parts of nullsec, she is easer to replace if you loose one.

And after slapping your buddy for telling you stuff that isn't true, the progression of ships is not t1 < t2 < t3 < t4 < t5 < t6 it is and always will be:

tech 1 < navy faction <<< pirate faction <- is highest, there is nothing above, nothing beats pirate.
< tech 2<

Your progression might look like Vexor < Navy Vexor <<<< Gila.
Ishtar<<

There is a CCP certified picture for this:

If the OP is asking about drone ships, I'm going to go off on a limb and guess his caldari bc and missile skills aren't up to snuff.

Personally I'd recommend going with the gila. They're a little more expensive, but all of their damage bonus is within the ship bonuses itself (so lower levels aren't as big of a deal), and they can get a very solid tank.

Basically, if you have the isk, go with the gila. If isk is a bit of an issue, you could try starting out with the VNI, but definitely want to start off slow with it.

For ratting I'm personally in the camp of VNI > Gila. If only because Sentry drones need no travel time.

OP's going to need to train heavily into drones if he's going for the Ishtar anyways, why cross train into a gila. Not that it's a huge deal..a day and a half to get to caldari cruiser I.

Also if your just looking for a ratting ship. VNI > Ishtar for sentry drone sniping. It has a higher damage bonus with sentries and with sniping you don't really need the tracking buff.

EZ Mode VNI
Lows:
4x DDA II
1X MAR II
1x Primary Rat DMG Hardener

Mids:
1x Sensor Booster Ii(Targeting range script)
1x Target Painter II
2x Omnidirectional Trackling Link II(Optimal Range script)

Highs:
2x DLA II

Rigs:
Medium Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer I

Just warp in at 100 km, drop sentries and pew pew from frigs up. With 2x Omnis your Garde/Curator IIs can hit out just shy of 80 km/90 km decently.

Won't even need the armor repper against anything but Guristas.

All this and a bag of chips for 1/3 of the price of the Gila plus you kill rats faster.

It depends in which space you are ratting in but I would certainly go VNI > Gila. Below is the fit Brave Newbies used to use against Serpentis rats when they were living in Fountain and its a good low skill starter ship.

[Vexor Navy Issue - Brave Ratter]

Capacitor Flux Coil II
Type-D Restrained Shield Power Relay
Type-D Restrained Shield Power Relay
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II

Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
100MN Monopropellant Enduring Afterburner
Pithum C-Type Thermal Dissipation Amplifier

Drone Link Augmentor II
[Empty High slot]
[Empty High slot]
[Empty High slot]

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
Medium Core Defense Field Purger I
Medium Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I

Caldari Navy Wasp x5

Warp to site. Orbit at 50kms plus and just let the drones do their thing while you watch Netflix. The oversized prop mod allows you to to speed tank the incoming rat aggro so anything that can web you should get killed first. It can do havens with good skills. It's also cheap (the most expensive items ar \e the drones and the T2 rig) and pays for itself pretty quickly.

100MN AB VNI is awesome. Much, MUCH cheaper than a Gila.

Highs: Drone Link Augmenter.
Mids: 100MN AB, 2s Large Shield Extenders, 1x Drone Navigation Computer.
Lows: 4x DDA, 2x Power Diagnostic Systems
Rigs: Fit resists for your local rats. For Guristas, that's 2x Thermal, 1x Kinetic rigs.

Drones: Faction or T2 heavy drones of appropriate damage for your local rats (for Guristas, that's Wasps). The Faction drones are well worth the price over standard T1.

These things can run Forsaken Hubs and suchlike with ease, just keep an eye out for Mortifiers (Guristas) rats that do pure Thermal damage. Warp in, pic an appropriate object to orbit at 30, launch drones, kill stuff, collect ISK.

To be quite frank ... I don't think you'll be doing either ship justice. If you do this as a group activity, any old T1 cruiser will do. Trying to solo null rats will require some bling and ships you're not ready to fly yet.

As a rule of thumb, as long as you don't have the appropriate cruiser level to V with T2 tank and T2 guns, don't fly pirate/navy ships.

I have seen people trying what you're trying to do. They get tackled by the first interceptor that comes along and can't figure out why they cannot hit the damn thing. Before you know it, you're down 200 mil, crying in your soup.

A two week old character has no business sitting in a navy vexor or a gila. This is not bittervet rubbish - it's sound advice to keep you from dying a lot in expensive ships, getting booted out of your corp (because killboard red) and leaving EvE altogether because "it's a cancer game full of a55holes".

Get some friends, grab regular Vexors and Exequrors, have fun and keep D-Scan up. Fly safe o7

Yeah... but no. This is ratting not PvP. You don't need cruiser V, bling or T2 guns to do these ships 'justice'. The ship will pay for itself in about 2-3 hours. It doesn't take too much knowledge to orbit something at 50kms, watch intel and safe up if a neut enters local. Also, I heard skill injectors are a thing now.

Also consider fitting a small remote armor repper to repair drone armor extending ratting time between docking up. Or, use a mobile depot to refit into a repper for drone repair.
